Red Arrows plane crash lands!
No other news, hope the pilot is ok, sounds from first reports he/she got the plane down in one piece.

Nah its not in one piece its fooked! I was out and about when fire engines were coming from all directions, i wondered what was going on until i got home.
I first heard it came down whilst trying to land but a new report says it went down by Throop mill not far from where i live.....if the report is correct then bloody lucky, it could of come down on houses near by! |
Just been said on another forum he did not make it :(
|
|
There is some video footage of the plane going down on bbc news 24, plane arcs and doesnt recover, no news on the pilot though so just talk about the pilot at the moment, fingers crossed :)

If thats true then the only logical reason he didnt eject was to enable him miss the houses....If thats the case then the pilot was a bloody hero.. |
There are a myriad of potential reasons why the pilot failed to eject, I'd wait for the outcome official before assuming it was his choice not to actually eject.
|
BBC saying rescue crews pulled the pilot out of the river, plane crashed on the other side of the river, still lets wait for the official outcome :)
Tony:) |
Lets hope no news = good news as far as the pilot is concerned. I watched them at Weymouth only on Wednesday and as usual was another display of perfection and sheer skill. I watched from a cliff top and was lucky enough to have them fly overhead very low to turn and go back for the next manouvre and it was one of those times when the hair on the back of your neck stands up.
Eye witness reports so far indicate the pilot did not eject and kept the aircraft away from people on the ground and if that turns out to be true then as said the pilot was indeed a selfless hero. |
The aircraft was in a tight right turn (see BBC news) it clearly loses altitude before disappearing from sight behind some trees - there is no indication of a change of direction, just altitude so I'm at a genuine loss as to how people are saying the aircraft was "kept away from people" - unless there's some other footage somewhere that would indicate this?

It appears to either lose power or becomes unable to sustain the correct pitch while in the bank, have you watched the clip on BBC new iplayer? I'd love to think that there was an heroic attempt to avoid something but it looks like there wasn't enough time for that luxury!

Plane crashed in the field just over from my place. I watched them pass over and heard a loud bang similar to a car misfiring but didnt see the plane crash.
A friend had just arrived as we were going to the beach to watch the show, so we drove off in the car just as the Merlin helicopter (also performing in the Bournemouth air show) arrived and landed. We went down the lane adjacent to the field and could see the wreckage.. sorry to say that if he didnt eject it doesnt look like he's survived. Police helicopter and two air sea rescue helicopters turned up, numerous police cars, ambulance, fire rescue etc. We've had Police close the road for hours and news crews with vans everywhere. The Blades (made up of former Red Arrow pilots) flew over about 30 mins ago in the 'Missing Man formation', doesnt look good. To add, my mate jst said the Daily Mail are reporting that the pilot died. RIP. :( |
I think you will find that my thread is the earliest  :lol1:

It's quite a sparse area between where I am and the airport, a small village and cottages here and there. Lets not forget they're all ex-combat pilots, brave souls. |
I dont know if this'll work or not, but this is the area.

Afraid not mate, but the video footage the BBC are showing is facing the direction of my place.
