Major Service, Modifications & Mapping; BIG THANKS to...
bigarf :luxhello:
It all started from the initial thread I posted "How many owners service/work on their own cars ?" (https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-own-cars.html that I realised the large number of folk who regularly get handy with the spanner on their own motors. Having never taken the plunge into working on any of my previous cars I really had the urge to get my hands dirty this time (even though it was daunting looking at the STI's engine bay) dunx recommended I have a word with bigarf as he was local to me and knew a fair few things when it came to working on scoobys (thanks dunx :thumb:). A few PM's later and the date was set to get cracking on my new car (2003 STi PPP). Turned up on said day ready to get going, but like a total retard I had forgotten to bring any of the oils with me :cuckoo::cuckoo: Rather than heading back to my gaf to collect bigarf suggested we tackle the cam-belt and spark plugs and leave the oils for the following day. Whilst bigarf got his tools together I just had to get some snaps of his beast :notworthy:notworthy http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/v31/p92440502-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...39451871-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...73494259-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/v29/p62761871-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...16369843-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...90316707-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/v27/p65915296-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...50431448-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/v1/p345451945-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...20805980-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...00491343-2.jpg So the first job as part of the major service was to change the spark plugs with some new NGK7's this took approx an hour or so (I'm sure it would have taken half the time if it wasn't for me asking a million and one questions :lol1:) Next was the cam-belt. Even though the car had been given a cam-belt change at 37k (currently at 52k) there was only a stamp proving this, for my own piece of mind I decided it would be a good idea to do it anyways. New Gates kit ready to go (Import Car Parts) http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...20787272-3.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/v28/p27811779-3.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...14064329-3.jpg Next up was the coolant, oils and filters (Millers/Fuchs, green cotton, blueprint) http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/v27/p54796044-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...95647516-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...71216911-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...45373587-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...88933916-2.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...67339927-2.jpg Whilst under the car the new Exedy stage 1 clutch fitted by the previous owner could be seen :) http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...68100007-3.jpg Next up was some mods, these included: Walbro fuel pump 255 (PPP pump removed was also a Walbro 255) HKSSSQV Rear Whiteline 24mm adjustable ARB CDF Racing Front & Rear Droplinks Sti Strut Brace http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...12767857-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...84010070-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...19975020-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...19546530-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...63396123-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...10840335-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...20731991-3.jpg Everything fitted we took the car for a spin. Very happy with the result :D:D http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...69549432-4.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...38309101-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...25885795-2.jpg Next was the remap by Duncan (Race Dynamics). Fortunately for me Duncan was in the region on another job and was able to squeeze me in at the end of the day. The session went well with the car producing good boost right across the rev band with little or no drop off. Car pulled strong and performed well. Timing and fuelling spot on and Duncan worked his magic leaving me with a responsive and much more fun to drive car :norty: http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...02320024-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...68179603-2.jpg Last thing was to clean the car, after all the work and time on the road the car was rather dirty. http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...77947466-4.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...87994689-3.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...12532397-3.jpg After some clay bar, polish and detailing the car turned out sweet, gotta love that gold fleck  http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...93252077-4.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...00797404-3.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...85395643-3.jpg http://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...52272811-4.jpghttp://designereye.zenfolio.com/img/...74251642-4.jpg All in all a great few days. The car is by no means complete, there are a few things remaining to fit (pro drive springs, anti-lift kit, geo setup, pro sport gauges) but will leave all that for another day ;) Thanks again to bigarf for all his help, expertise and knowledge, I learn't a hell of a lot mate (along with what a really fast cast feels like :eek::eek:) :thumb: |

It's got to be Blue or Black mate. I was actually looking for a nice blue one having owned a black and silver one previously, but this one came up and so black it was. Nice colour but I remember now why I purchased the silver one, black is a pain in the ar$e to keep clean. What mods you got planned for yours then?

Oops, sorry morph - didn't read your post.

Slowly... she has seen 4200 rpm now and 0.3 bar of boost... 400 miles so far, but no rush as Simon (JGM) is on his hols till September.
Then it's steady use on 1.4 bar till it gets some decent oil. dunx |
