That wouldn't be good though, and would probably just exacerbate things. I agree the use of live rounds should be legal, but not used indiscriminately. Being around people committing crimes is not a crime itself. The use of live rounds should be reserved for stopping people from looting and the violence that goes along with it. At first they should get a chance to stop with threat of fire, and if they continue then drop them! Although it would be better if the property owners had these rights - the police shooting people could intensify animosity towards them and the government. But, on the other hand, it could work as a firm deterrent.

I think regardless of the politicians in power at the time, there will always be a section of society keen to get involved in this type of activity when the opportunity presents itself - possibly more so now due to access to "twitter" and t'internet.
