closed deck/ open deck question
Hey all, I understand the physical difference netween the two and that closed deck is stronger, but i have a few qustions on the subject if someone would be so kind as to answer them for me please;
On my 02 bugeye wrx i understand the block to be open deck is that true? What power level can it cope with before block failure? Is there such a thing as a "semi closed deck block?" Any info on the matter would be a great help, thanks in advance :thumb: |
Bugeye WRX have OBD(Open Block Deck) they're good up to 450-500bhp(with upgraded internals like forged pistons,crank,arp studs etc.)with supported mods...
Without the going for forged internals your engine will be good up to 400bhp(i've seen few with 400bhp+). But mainly depends what turbo you are running and what boost you are think to run,on WRX OBD i wouldn't recommend run rotated turbo setup with high boost,due liners will move/fail Yes is something like SCBD this use V8,V7 2.0 STi,they're stronger,but worth to go for CDB in future if you are planning run 500bhp+ Jura |
Ace, I'll be around 350, so no worries

All new age STI's have semi closed deck blocks, open deck seem to be good for 500+ without problems, your biggest issue is internals, I wouldnt exceed 350bhp on a standard wrx's internals, after that your pushing your luck, a fair few go before 350bhp (and I know a couple of people who's have) so take note, they are not as strong as everyone makes out, unlike the STI engines which are pretty robust :D
