Bugeye FMIC where to cut?

Hi All,

I am in the process of making my making my bugeye wagon a lil bit wider by fitting all the saloon arches & front bumper.

i haven't got a FMIC yet but will do & as the bumper i bought needs a lil work & some paint I thought I might get the cutting out the way now before I have it painted.

Has somebody got pics of how much & where I need to cut? or is it a case of different kits different cuts & not worth it until i got a FMIC bolted to the car?

Recently fitted a fmic to my bug. When cutting the bumper i followed the line of the inner plastic, if you have a look your see what i mean because it is slightly stepped.

Different kits are different sizes, and it really is a case of cut, trial fit and re-cut as a part of the fitting process, unless you want to something extreme which I did and opened the bumper right up and meshed it:thumb:

Yea I thought it would be a case of removing all the black insert section.

Jon any pics?

Do you need to cut out parts of the fog section?

I will more than likly get a japspeed kit.

I needed to lose the fogs for the Japspeed kit, pics are in my build thread and also here...

really?

dont like the idea of not having the fogs.

If you have more patience than me you could probably trim around the pipework in such a way that you could keep the fogs, but I'm trimming some excess weight were I can - in 5 years I've never used my front fogs:thumb:

lost my fogs also with hybrid fmic but never used them

I had to make a pair of brackets to keep my Hella HID spots in the front of mine

yea i was looking @ the fogs with a mate & we guessed the would need moving forward & brackets making.

Jon did you basically cut the bumper right upto the front edge? thats what it looks like which is what i think i will do & then space the fmic forward if it doesnt but right upto the bumper.

what did you use to cut it? we thought about a rowter & running it round the flaat section of the bumper to keep it even as poss then finish off with a sanding block

Yes, I've cut right up to the bumper front - I used a stanley knife which I also used to take a chunk out of my finger at the same time:eek: - just need to make sure the bumper is warm to soften the plastic slightly ie don't do it on a winters day when the temps are below freezing:thumb: I then finished it off with a rasp.

You could always use a dremel instead but I found the discs too brittle and the diamond discs I have too harsh:wonder:

JonMc - where did you get the pipework? I need one that goes over the engine on the passanger........

JonMc 07 August 2011 01:46 PM

Intercooler pipework came with my FMIC from japspeed, all my silicon stuff from ASH (Auto Silicone Hoses):thumb:

hair dryer & a blade might be the option then.

the cooler seems to but up against the bumper nicely.

might invest in some fog light covers then like you said never use the fogs

anybody used ets covers? any good?
