ADSL+ Area
Hello!
I recently moved to a new house on a relatively new estate. When I moved in, ADSL+ lines were not setup, so I had to pay through the nose for broadband with Sky. (£17.50 a month) The Mrs got herself a new mobile phone last week from Orange and whilst I was in the store, I asked what homebroad band deals they do. They did a quick check and according to them, we now have ADSL+ line active in our area, allowing me to get cheap broadband (£7.50 a month) if I wish. I telephoned Sky that weekend and asked if I could be put on the cheaper service as the ADSL+ lines were now active. The lady at the Indian call centre replied with ' There are no other internet services available in your area'. Don't they all use the same line? |

However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location: BT Wholesale ADSL BT Wholesale ADSL Max BT Wholesale WBC (21CN) AOL LLU O2 / Be LLU TalkTalk (CPW) LLU Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo) Orbital / VFast Wireless So does this mean I am not in an ADSL+ area? Confused. :wonder: |
Well it depends on what you mean bt ADSL+?
Bt offer the 21cn in your area so you can get up to 20 meg service is you go with BT or one of the vendors who resell BT wholesale. O2 and Sky dont use the BT kit in you exchange but have there own and offer there own rates |
I don't really care about the speed. We only use the internet to browse, not really do download. Been happy with 3-5mb for the last 6 years.
I just don't want to pay Sky more than I have to. £17.50 a month is a rip of basic broadband these days. Looks like we will be taking our business elsewhere when the contract is up. |
Went for Orange in the end. Mrs has a contract phone with them so we got the £5 per month deal and £12.50 line rental. Some £12 a month cheaper than what Sky were charging us.
