I think i want a remap

I think i want a remap
I have an 03 STI, its completely standard (other than a set of wheels).

After reading through a few old threads i think a remap might be beneficial in terms of mpg, increase in power etc.. i barely scrape 200 miles to a tank regardless of how hard i try.. and yes i know, i know... dont buy a scooby if you are scared of petrol stations, but it cant hurt to try and improve things at the moment.

Is there really any point remapping a standard car or should i make some other mods at the same time? What sort of improvements do you see with standard cars?

Also who do we trust to do this sort of work and dare i ask how much it costs?

This is the perfect thread to answer some questions. https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...test-mule.html

The short answer is yes to mapping as standard, good noticeable gains, modifying will then just amplify those gains. Recommended upgrade is always colder 7 plugs, fuel pump for piece of mind and decat downpipe and exhaust back, 3 inch ideally.

Hope this helps,

Graham

There is about 30 bhp (perhaps a little more) to be gained in remapping a completely standard sti aswell well as improvements in the overall economy from general driving.

Where abouts are you based?

Hi jonny I've got an 03 wrx and my mods are panel filter, fuel pump, back box for the rumble: ) and had a remap ( open source ) and I've got to say wow what a difference it has made I only had this done 2 months ago and wish i'd have done this when I first brought the car.
The gains I have noticed is extra 3 miles to the gallon which soon adds up over a tank full and also a much better drive all round with that extra power; ) .
Hope this helps: ) enjoy .

Ok, sounds good. Are there benefits in terms of responsiveness as well?

Im in Crayford nr Dartford, Kent

Torque would be increased approx 20-30lb/ft more mid range and power should peak higher and last a little longer. So yes responsiveness will be improved and spool can be made a little quicker also.

Why would you put a 3" exhaust on an otherwise standard sub 350bhp car, pointless IMHO :) enjoy the punch of a 2.5" system until you exceed 350 IMHO. Pump, filter, plugs, good fluids and chop the second cat pipe in for a decat and you'll be laughing :)
