loud mettallic click from front end

Hi guys and girls, having an issue with my classic front end. Apart from my tracking being out, i have got a problem with a loud mettalic click when suspension is in use, i.e, when reversing out my drive or when i start to pull away on bumpy surface. Now i'm convinced it may be bushes, the droplinks were looking old so i replaced them and anti-roll bar bushes are on order. but before i go and get the tracking sorted i could do with some advice as to what else may cause this. The car does wonder all over the place while driving, hence the tracking being done soon. but if its likely to be something else bush wise or track rod ends, then i'd rather get it sorted before the tracking. Please help??:cuckoo: (i've checked the drive shafts and they are fine)

its funny you should say that mate, i've just bought 2 track rods and i was gonna order the track rod ends today but thought i'd get some advice first. in your opinion, whats the best way to check them to see if they are shot? Thankyou for your help mate.

well if you look at the new ones the ball joint on the end should move around smoothly with no notching etc.
then check the one on the car and it should be the same. when they go the ball joint will move around notchy and become slack, that could explain your car wandering around on the road as the wheels wont be help straight with the rack

also i have known the wheel bearing or even the brake pads to click when your start moving, i would check these if the track rod ends are ok.
check for correct brake pad retainer etc.

Thank you very much mate, i'll give them a try. Are the wishbone bushes usually a problem with these? It may be worth seeing how much they are and changing them anyway. seen as i'm having the track rods off anyway. i was thinking of changing the strut tops too as i've noticed some cracking around them.

You may be better asking a classic owner about more technical stuff as I have a new age sti.
I'm just talking from experience on general cars and not subaru, although I do know the rear shocks on new ages are well known to knock!

They do with the classic too, one of mine is just starting knocking. Hence the willingness to change the fronts also. its gonna hurt the wallet doing all four as well as everything else needed on the front, but i love this car and i'll have it for years so its all worth it.
