You'll open a can of worms asking that question.......... |
Motul competition 300V 15W50.

A safe bet is the shell helix (or millers as an alternative) 10w40 semi synthetic which is the standard oil for these cars. Tony:) |
what does the car manual say to use?
|
Check Opie Oils website, they have a recommendation system... very good prices, discount for scoobynet members, good delivery also
|
Just stuck your car into the opie oils site and out pops.... Drum roll for TonyBurns.....10/40 semi synthetic. Several to choose from at good prices including Fuchs/Titan, millers and Motul.

I was unsure what oil to use too, very good site, does service packs too.
|
Gulf Competition very good, priced well too....
|
Ten years of using Millers fluids. The very best and on the right side of the Pennines.:D
|
do you guys use fully synthetic or semi synthetic cos am not sure which one to use now. thanks
phil |
10w40 semi synthetic
|
You'll struggle getting full synthetic oil in 10w-40...most are 5w-40 (can of worms :D )
Anyhoo Semi-synthetic is fine on 6month oil changes (as per a UK Turbo 2000's service schedule). Unless you intend on stretching it to 12months, drive the car hard on every outing (or autobahn speed runs) or use it for towing. Or the engine has modifications to increase BHP output. In these cases a different quality/grade oil maybe called for. |
Lots of sensible advice above .... Semi 10W-40 is what you want, nothing more and nothing less.
6 Monthly changes are the key as ALi-B says above ..... these regular changes are better for the engine than expensive oils. |
the cheapest you can get personally i use tesco value as its only 1.99 for 5 litres and then wash the oil filter out with sand,
then while its cold i red line it to morrisons and fill it up with normal unleaded. lol i love these threads about oil and petrol, while im here can anyone tell me if a wrx is better than an sti and which dump valve should i buy? |
but seriously use what the owner manual suggests and get the best quality oil you can afford and change the filter too.
do it every six months and you should be ok. |
how many litres does it take to fill them up when you have drained it all out.
|
Between 4 and 5 litres normally.
I use Fuchs 10w50 Synthetic on my current forged engine, prior to that I used Millers CFS 10w40 for road and 10w50 if I had a lot of track coming up. |
Mobil 15w 50
|
Vauxhall 10w40 semi (£18 for 5L) every 5000 miles of the last 75,000 miles. MY97uk turbo 2000 DIY PPP now at 165,000 used and abused miles on original slappy engine (had 2 gearboxes and upteen brake pads/discs/tyres tho).
Spare engine in the garage awaiting the inevitable big end rattle Oh, and the standard UK turbo will happily run on normal unleaded! :) |
what about halfords own brand oil any body use that
|
do you guys change the oil every 6 months even if you've only done very little miles? like...500?
|
I'm a recent convert to Bardahl. Bardahl oil with their 'Turbo Protect' - great stuff!
|
Euro carparts have shell helix 10w40 semi and 5w40 fully synthetic at good prices I get a lot of my stuff from them since my local Subaru dealer closed,
|
is halfords own brand oil any good or should i steer clear of it only asking as my brother has a trade card.
|
I have used it in other cars and aslong as you are using the correct oil i dont see why its not ok. Especially if you can get it cheaper as its not the cheapest.

. . . . . . . . . . On this! http://www.gadgetheaven.co.uk/images...e-On-Mower.jpg It's a performance car, get the best quality oil you can (Shell Helix at the very least) and change it at the reccommended mileage/time intervals recommended by Subaru at the latest! |
