Tesco 99 screws my car up!

Go all,

The car runs fine on vpower, boosts to the correct bar as it was mapped, and runs lovely.

Put a drop of tesco 99 in and it overboosts massively ( like 1.6/1.7 bar) and runs like a bag of spanners!

Anybody else noticed this? As soon as I put vpower in again it's like flipping a switch - all back to normal... Very weird!

Bad batch of fuel maybe?

I know alot of people run tesco 99 with no issues

uk/wrx/ppp 29 July 2011 10:06 PM

Use it all the time with no problems !

ado 29 July 2011 10:10 PM

Stick with V Power,maybe ?

Tesco burns slowly and if you have anti lag, or a greater overlap on cams , this can lead to higher EGT's , excessive fuel though the hot side can cause boost issues. Recently I asked about software used on ECU's some software has a rather static map set up that can be upset by fuel changes.

I do have an exhaust leak on the up pipe, but the difference in fuels is night and day! Seem to get loads more overrun on the tesco...

Mine pefers tescos finest to v power! Which is fine by me as I work for Tesco so can fill out on the way outta work! No messing around finding a shell! Plus Tesco seems to be about 7p cheaper here.

funny you should post this. i filled up with tesc99 the other day. then within 10 mile overboost. and engine light. which was handy ass the mrs nearly went over the bonnet. couldnt of happened at a better time i was struggling to convince her the remap i had booked in was really needed.. lol

So other than V power and Tesco 99 what other alternatives are there?. I was forced to use BP 97 Ron back last week as Tesco's was all out of 99

scoobygreg 03 August 2011 11:16 AM

mines mapped for tescos 99 never had any probs

happydude303 03 August 2011 03:25 PM

shell for me but i would say just use what your car likes to be fair

+1 for Tesco 99 never had a problem

Unless its mapped to the edge of its limits either tesco or v power should be ok. Most mappers leave a little lea way for different suppliers. I can use either in mine without any noticable difference

I have never come across anyone who's says that they have had such big probs with Tesco's Momentum. I use it all the time and its always been ok in both UK cars and import cars I've had.

Apparently Sainsburys do a higher ron fuel, but don't quote me on that as I haven't seen it personally

Tesco 99 all the way. have been using tesco for over 2 years now and no probs

Tidgy 06 August 2011 01:12 AM

its one of those suck it and see, some cars prefer one to the other.

vpower does have additional chemicals in it so if its been mapped for it then will prob prefer vpower. but that isnt always a stead fast rule lol
