Anyone own a vauxhall zefira diesel?

Hi,

I was going out to buy a 2006 Zefira SRI, 1..9 tdi 150bhp. 120k 2 owners.

Can someone tell me if they have noisy engines?

My brother has a Zefira Design with 160K on the clock and his engine is loud..unsure if they are all like this..

Thanks

Not the same car, but I have the same engine, bit noisy on the start, but once warm not really. On a motorway you can't hear it at all. Pulls really well to. :thumb:

My parents used to have an 07 1.9 turbo diesel zafira and got to admit very nice car to drive. Pulls very well, feels very quick for a large vehicle.
Engine was fairly quiet from what I remember and very economical on fuel.

If you have to get a zafira the 1.9 turbo diesel is definatly the best one to go for.

GM lump found in Alfa's, saab and vauxhall, 150bhp nice lump. week spots are belt change at 72000 miles (very important,) EGR valve clogg up, and been reported that water pumps can go wrong. Dual mass flywheel and clutch change are expensive, If it judders or slips the clutch first warning signs of problem.

Just noticed the 2006 VW Touran 1.9tdi costs the same as a 2006 Zafira design or sri.

I think the Touran is 103bhp where as the Zafera is 150bhp..

I have one Zafira to see in Luton (without SatNav) and the other near Leeds (with Sat Nav) both costing the same with same mileage.

power steering pump needed replacing on my mates last month. the mechanic told him he had done a few on these over the years. did not cost him too much mind.

A fairly common problem on these engines is the alternator, mine went a couple of months ago, the recovery man said he sees a lot of the same cars with the same problem.

Vauxhall wanted something like £700 to replace.

Quick trip down to EPC and a Saturday afternoon had that sorted for £200. :thumb:

a little off topic but my old fiesta st used to play up frequently with the coilpack. i asked a mechanic what was the best way to get around the problem? his answer, in future, buy japanese.

Had the same engine in an Astra and have access to literally hundreds through one of my clients, great engine, though it is a Fiat, not a GM as mentioned above.

Right, ive a 120 (16v same engine as the 150 16v), so major issues... duel mass flywheels though not as common as most other things, (as on pretty much every modern diesel you get and all marques suffer from this issue), water pump change with cambelt at 50k (if you saw the water pump you wouldnt want it in much longer than that :lol1: cheap plastic impellars), ESP can be problematic (trust me this will cost you more than any of the other issues but you can live with it, the ABS pump of which the ESP is a part is, cough, cough £1317.00) or is it 1371?
The only problems ive had in 45k miles (ish) are:-
Broken rear spring
Worn front ball mount (both fixed today)
Aircon rads are seceptable to stones
Boost solenoid went on mine, dirt cheap to replace (was under warranty though)
ESP light  (breakers please :D)
Otherwise been a good car :D

Tony:)

We've had our Zafira for 5 1/2 years and 81k. In that time other than routine services, 2 sets of tyres, new front pads, the only other spends have been 2x 10amp fuses and 2 number plate lamp bulbs. We'll be getting another in November.

easy to find owners of these just pop down to Halfords and go to the parts of the store that sell:
  • Anodised exhaust tips
  • 14" venom wheels
  • afterburner back lights
  • window tinting kits
  • mesh grills
  • irmscher badges / 16v / SRI
  • TWIN DTM exhausts
  • hanging rear sign like "Dads Taxi" or similar

You will see a man there telling other people that "Zafiras really pack a punch" and that he can easily keep up with a scooby/Aston Martin/ Ferrari etc etc

he won't mention anything about his wife choosing the car and that her only concession was letting him spend £100 on accessories :lol1:

I had nothing but sh*t with mine. So much so Vauxhall eventually, after 6 months argument, replaced it with another new car. Had the same problems with that one too . Sold it in the end (VX customer (couldn't) care (less) isn't worth a w*nk) and replaced it with the much more reliable and better set out VW Touran.

Sounds like you were lucky..................Plenty of serious issues here

At least with a Vauxhall if it does go wrong, parts are cheap.
And you never have to visit a VW dealer with a Vauxhall.

BLU 30 July 2011 05:02 PM

The same can be said of the reviews for the Zafira too.....

Having owned both the VX prices and the VW prices are on a par. Both have sh*t customer care departments too, no doubt about it. I don't own either now but would pick the VW over Vauxhall any day.
