what turbo for around 320-340bhp
hi guys can some one guide me on the right path with regards to a turbo upgrade.
i have a 07 wrx full decat walbro f/pump k&n panel filter. i dont want to change intercooler or have to upgrade clutch. so would be more than happy with 320bhp-340bhp... thanks in advance guys :hjtwofing |
On my classic i have a IHI VF28 which is runnining 333bhp.. And they are as cheap as chips... :D
|
will that go on a hawkeye?????????????????????????
|
vf35 or tdo5 18g
|
Vf 43 or 48 should see you too around 340-350bhp and a load of torque! Had a vf43 on my wrx and it was awsome after a dynamix remap!
Had the same mods too! Apart from I had sti intercooler! Doug |
|
I'd be leaning towards VF34, that's what I'm running on mine, it's a good turbo! :)

stay away from ebay cheap turbos, they useless and could take your engine out when they go pop.
|

Your best of changing to the STI intercooler if you are looking for that power level. Not sure the wrx intercooler is up to the job.
My 06 Hawkeye is running 334bhp with 381ft/lb torque. Have VF48 turbo STI intercooler Prodrive 3 port boost solenoid Samco intercooler hoses Turbo blanket Cobra 200 cel sports cat downpipe Cobra resonated mid pipe 2.5” Aftermarket 2.5” rear box Walbro 255 fuel pump Do Luck panel filter And remap thanks to Duncan (Racedynamics) At the levels you are looking at you may need a clutch too. Doug did, I will and you might. Just a word of warning! Will definitely also need to upgrade your brakes. I had previously uprated all the discs, pads & hoses but once remapped it was no where near enough! Just had to fit some brembos up front. Good luck, Andy |
The vf30 should do that and are on offer here.

VF35 will see 320 on standard WRX intercooler.
STI topmount and more importantly the undertray will see you closer to 330/340 |
Good point. Must have sti undertray with sti intercooler or rather pointless.
|
I had the Vf35 and newage Sti intercooler and undertray fitted to my last Scoob, a MY00 Uk turbo. The Vf35 is relatively cheap and has minimal lag. I,d recommend this.:thumb: Steve.
|
Not sure the undertray is a necessity......I ran a TD05 16G on a Bug WRX at 325 odd BHP with an STi TMIC with the WRX undertray. After all at 300 odd BHP the STi intercooler is hardly breaking sweat LOL.

The tmic on your car is fine to 350 bhp, I just got a sti tmic and undertray for future mods! But had to sell the car!
Best to have the undertray I think then you get full use of sti tmic! How's the car going Andy? Doug |
I have got a VF34 on my 2003 bugeye and with the supporting mods I am running 340bhp :thumb:

Well my VF28 made 333bhp and 329lbs and only cost me £150 and is still going strong.... Spools around 2900rpm.. Good turbo if you dont want to spend a lot of money...
