bigger brakes 2002 wrx prodrive?
 

hi i have a 52 wrx prodrive the brakes aint the best whats the best upgrade ? not lookn to spend mad money tho ? can any one help will biger calipers help with vented disks and decent pads? :wonder::wonder:

First off, does it have the "S U B A R U" 4-pots, or the rubbish sliding calipers (can't remember)?

What wheels you got? Brembos bolt straight on but don't fit behind all wheels.

I would recommend the Brembo's but you will need the right wheels for them to go behind. I had the same set up on my Hawk WRX. Gone for Brembo's with carbotech pads and standard discs. Stops on a 6pence now.

You can get Godspeeds 335mm disc and caliper spacer/brackets to modify the 4-pots. But this kit brand new ain't that cheap. It's not all that far off the price of a set of brand new 330mm K-Sports, or indeed 2nd hand STi Brembos, as mentioned.

Pads: DS2500 - can't go wrong with these. Not stupidly expensive. Great pedal feel/decent stopping power for fast road, resistant to fade, very low dusting.

Other 'essential' mod is steel braided brakes all round, and the master cylinder stopper brace. Motul RBF 600 DOT 5.1 brake fluid.

yes the 335mm Brembo kit fills a 17" wheel rather nicely

Yeah std 4-pot/294mm disc = not good. :(

I fitted brembos on the front of my old my 03 wrx fitted sti alloys as well, after I sold my own stuff it was a cheap upgrade think about £250 so no more than decent pads and discs for the wrx calipers this was by far the best performance mod I done to the car and gave great confidence in stopping compared to standard brakes which I was never fully happy with, as you have 18 inch prodrive alloys should fit under those, all you need is calipers with bolts and discs and pads, then sell on yours to a classic owner.

i owe wrx 03 and i bought sti brembo calipers 300+
you wish to have good discs 270+ and pads 130+
thats 700 or more with used calipers.
i sold it and bought new ksport kit 910 with blue ngx pads from bren -the best way i think. dont forget about tyres to :)

Decent fast road discs and pads for Brembo's can be had for under £130 (discs & pads).

K-Sports are also a good upgrade with NDX pads.

I paid £400 for my brembos, black diamond grooved discs & mintex pads.
Purchased some new fast road pads for £60.

My 5 year old Subaru 4 pots, nearly new grooved discs & red stuff pads gotta be worth £200 to sell on.

So my total brake upgrade will have only cost me £260.

Bargain!

With Brembos, forget the rear unless you can be bothered to get all the necessary brackets (Ian sells those too) as I believe the handbrake assembly needs modification as well - it's not a straight swap.

I went through this same debate, but my decision was made easier because:
a) I had a set of 18" inovit redlines with Vreddies for summer, but for worse weather I have 17" OEM WRX alloys with winter tyres
b) Brembos won't clear with the OEM WRX alloys
c) K-Sport 330mm kit calipers do :D.

Given that with the K-Sport option I knew I was getting a new bit of kit rather than something which could have been in any old condition, that's what I went for, with EBC blue stuff NDX pads.

I already had Ian's grooved discs, braided lines and had tried various types of pad from DS2500's to Yellow Stuff and, whilst better than OEM kit, they just weren't good enough for hard stops and were prone to brake fade.

The K-Sports are great - so much better and inspire much more confidence - very happy with em.
Nothing wrong with Brembos if you get a set you know are in good condition and you have wheels that can clear them, but the K-Sports fitted the bill better for me due to their ability to fit behind a wider variety of 17's.
