I have the same car and went through alot of research when I had to replace mine.

Don't bother with the geninue Subaru ones, some companies seem to be cashing in on the fact they are hard to get hold of. I won't mention any names.

I bought mine off ebay so will dig out the guys name. Before anyone shouts cheap rubbish, they are not.

Have had no issues with them.

I think its just the version 3 which is different, from memory its to do with the hand brake or something.

Could be wrong I have a failing memory!

I will be home later tonight so will check my Invoices.:thumb:

sonic93 14 July 2011 07:49 PM

anyone know?

Godspeed Brakes 14 July 2011 08:04 PM

Hi
The only ones we can get are original Subaru dealer ones , not cheap at around £160 a pair , the discs are 290mm , with a 190mm handbrake , and the discs are solid not vented.

I remember when scoobylou get hers from someone on ebay , I searched and couldn't find the supplier , and PM'd her to find out who the supplier was so we could add them to our range , but never got a reply from her.
If you do find who it was , and I have just searched ebay again but there is no one advertising solid ones only vented , I would be grateful if you could say

Cheers Ian

sonic93 14 July 2011 08:07 PM

sure will mate yea 160 does seem steep can t u get any 1 to make them up? why did they do almost same size discs on back to front?

classicgc8 14 July 2011 08:12 PM

ian are these correct??? http://www.grahamgoode.com/subaru/parts.php?item=GGS973

Godspeed Brakes 14 July 2011 08:18 PM

Hi
The 290mm discs were only fitted to the rear f a version 1 , 2 and 3 type R , so the market is very small , I can get the later version 4 and 5 type R vented rear discs , as the market is so small , the disc manufacturers aren't interested in making limited number discs.
Hopefully scoobylou will come back with more info
Cheers Ian

ScoobLou 15 July 2011 09:38 AM

Sorry mate, can't find the guy on ebay any more and can't find my paperwork.

:(

Its a shame because he was a proper business and had his own website so didn't just trade on ebay.

ScoobLou 15 July 2011 04:16 PM

Hey found my delivery note.

It was from Brake Depot Limited, Chatsworth Avenue, Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S40 3JU.

I went for the grooved rear and I have had no issues.

I will see if I can dig out the name of the person I spoke too, he gave me so much help and advice, I couldn't fault him!

ian did u find out if the caliper on the type r rear is standard single pot cheers

dazdavies 22 July 2011 10:33 PM

The only way to upgrade the rear brakes on a version 3 Type R is to swap the back plates for the later ones or change the whole hub for the later ones.
