External Hard drives - Windows 7

PC was running out of storage space so I bought a 2Tb WD elements external hard drive.
Connected it up in the usual manner but although windows knew I'd plugged it in (installing device drivers etc) it wasn't listed under 'my computer'.
I've got 2 internal HD's another 750Gb HD and this new one. It was only when I turned off the 750Gb external HD that the new drive was displayed under My Computer (using the old 750Gb HD's drive letter).
Surely I should be able to connect more than one external hard drive?

Both external drives have their own power source so that can't be it?

Anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Matt

Did you try plugging in the old one again?

Right click on the "My Computer" icon.
Go to Manage
Disk management
If you can see it there then it has probably just assigned the drive the same letter as your 1st one.
If thats the case just right click on your new drive and assign a different drive letter to it.

When this sort of thing happens its usually quite useful to go into "Disk Management" and take a look at the physical disks, partitions, formatting, drive letters assigned, etc. It often gives you a much better idea of what's actually happening.

(Don't quote me on this) - Control Panel, (possibly System), Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management

Assigned a different drive letter and booted up the old drive, now both are showing :D :thumb:

Out of interest how much was the drive?

I'm thinking of getting a 2TB drive to go with the 500GB one I have at the moment.

£70 mate
Can't comment on the Seagate one someone's suggested, however, my 750Gb is a Seagate, had it 4 years without a hitch. Much more noisy that this new WD drive though (the WD drive is almost silent). Mind you, they might all be like that nowadays :lol1:
