sti intercooler fitting
 

hi guys,

please can you tell me if this sti intercooler will fit onto an my99 uk turbo 2000, as im having trouble fitting a bov and been advised to get the sti intercooler due to the outlet pipe,

the garage told me to make sure i get the right one to fit my car so i want to make sure before i bid on it.

no it wont mate,that is from a v4 sti,you want the sllightly later one where the bov bolts directly to the intercooler.

Yes it definetley will fit onto your 99 uk turbo,the intercooler advertised is off a version 4 sti and has an elbow coming off it which you normally connect your recirc/bov to.

Which intercooler do you currently have on your 99 car :wonder: ,because if it is the std black one with the recirculating valve like in the link below ,then you will definetley not have a problem finding one to suit your intercooler:

There are plenty of baileys bov's also on there ,but personally would not reccommend them :nono: and would stick to the original recirc valve.In the last 2 years i have tried the following bov's baileys,forge,gfb,turbosmart & blitz.The blitz was the best and gave me no running issues ,but the car was not as smooth between the shifts as it was with the std recirculting valve fitted. At the end of the day if you want the sound then buy one ,but just dont expect any performance increase.

:wonder: 99-00 cars all have the ic without that metal pipe welded on.the bovs you have shown are for the later intercooler which should be right for a 99-00 ic.the pic the op shown is a v4 97/98 ic:freak3:

Yes it definetley will,as it is exactly the same fittings as his std intercooler bar the elbow which you just connect a samco hose to then your bov/plastic recirc to that. The later intercoolers which was fitted to your old car and my present one, was considered an upgrade as the recirc being bolted to the intercooler and made of alloy meant it was more efficient than the V4 and less prone to cracking like some of the earlier plastic types,but considering the op is thinking of fitting a bov,then this intercooler gives him a far wider range to go for as he does not need to buy an adaptor plate ,which he would need if he was going to fit a bov without the 2 x 12mm bolts to secure to the intercooler.

i have a standard intercooler but my trouble is i have purchased a hks ssqv3 and cant find a mounting/fitting kit anywhere,
so popped into my local scooby specialist and he advised me to get a secondhand sti intercooler due to the elbow and then he could make my hks bov fit,
i have been trying for 2 days to find somewhere that sells the hks impreza fitting kit with adapter plate but had no joy, and this is my only other option he told me.

it will do that job as stated above mate,the v4 intercooler will fit.:D

Just as i thought :idea:,with that bov you need a special adaptor plate so it will fit on to your std intercooler,as most other bov's for a 99/00 car use 2 x 12mm bolts. The intercooler in your ebay link will allow you to put a piece of samco pipe on the elbow then connect your bov to this.If you want to use your std black 99 intercooler you will need something like this :thumb: :

The sti intercoolers normally sell for around £60 - £100 depending on the condition and you should get the silicone Y pipe with that ,which is a big improvement over the the std oe plastic item.like below :

i did find that from graham goode but wasn't sure if it would be the right one as my last my99 scoob had the kit in the first pic of the link and i wasn't sure if the g/goode kit would fit.

The hks is a bit difference to most bov's as it sits alongside the intercooler when fitted on a 99/00.Most people use the bracket and fixing kit,when it is supplied .Others have used there std recirc hose and reversed it and then cable tied the hks to the intercooler,when no fitting kit is supplied.I dont think you can get buy a hks fitting kit now,you use to be able to a few years ago pick them up on ebay,but not seen them for a while.For piece of mind give graham goode a bell in the morning and ask for Alastair.Tell him the black geezer who had a 3 door Sierra RS cosworth :norty: 22 yrs ago running 270 bhp says hi. :thumb:

im going to have a bid on the intercooler as it also gives it a slight upgrade and i can tell myself i have an sti when i open the bonnet in future just need to get a tin of red paint:D

No probs mate :thumb:,personally dont bother with the red paint as classic sti's never had any paint on them.Tuned by sti is enough imho.I will post a picture of mine up tomorrow ,see what you think

the car is totally standard under the bonnet at the mo, the only thing it has had done is a 3" ss de cat scorpion exhaust system from the turbo,

im not going to mod it to much as my last scoob was upgraded to the max and always breaking down, the thing cost me 3k to buy then over the next 12 months of ownership cost me just short of 2k on repair bills, gearbox first then the rad then the rear diff then it started cutting out under hard acceleration, by which time id had enough of it and got rid.

so hoping because this one hasn't been messed with it might last a bit longer than the last one did.

the one i was bidding on went for a bit more than i want to pay, so still looking but when i get one will put a piccy up.

also see your running a recirc valve, you not a fan of bov's then?

im getting so impatient to get the hks fit as it turned up this afternoon:luvlove::luvlove::luvlove::luvlove: so just got to get the bits to fit it now, just wish i had paid the £280 from sumo power and got the kit with it i paid £190 but know have to spend more on getting all the bits, buy hey you live and learn.
