WANTED: 6 Speed Conversion

The time has come to admit defeat.

Last weekend saw me visiting the Nurburgring and 5 laps in, I managed to destroy yet again another 5 speed box.
The last box had been rebuilt with stronger selectors and a stronger 3rd gear but still it managed to buckle under the strain.
I've now decided to abandon the 5 speed option and just go straight for the 6 speed conversion.

If anyone knows of one for sale or better still, a car that being broken for spares or repairs I'm more than happy to come and strip the parts myself.

regards, Shaun

You could try Impreza Breakers near Norwich - 01508 558880. They quite often have them in.

I wouldn't mind one myself but can't quite justify the cost right now.

Thanks chap.
I'll give them a call.

Appreciate the offer mate. Mileage doesn't bother me at all.
Can you please give me the trans code so I can see what the gear ratios are? I need to make sure they're sensible and aren't going to cripple my cruising speed.
cheers,

I thought those new box parts you imported were supposed to be uber strong ? :(

Six speed in a classic is awesome mate for shifting and cruising can't beat it. :)

The difference in gear ratios on the 6 speeds can be a fairly significant difference.

I performed a 6 speed swap for a customer about 3 years ago and the car was geared to 172mph! and could cruise in 6th at 70mph using around 2500rpm. Brilliant!
On the other side of the coin, I did another swap late last year and that car hits the limiter in 6th at 139mph but cruises at 70mph using around 4000rpm.
It cripples the fuel consumption because the turbo is really eager at that rev range.

I can go from 25 - 150 mph in 6th gear. Crazy.

Found the right one at last.
Went to Birmingham last night to collect it.
The gear ratios are perfect and all in all, very good condition with minimal mileage on it too.
£1500.00 - job done
