Sti Wagon - 1996?

This might be more appropriate in the muppet room, due to me being a muppet...

My mum has an Impreza Wagon, an Import, 1996

It seems to be a WRX Sti, did these exist or has somebody just put some Sti bits on a WRX?
Is there a way I can check to be 100% sure?

Also, it will be going up for sale and I have no idea what to put it up for...

It has a rusty arch that is currently being fixed, other than that it seems sound to me, faded dash on the passenger side.

I will get pics this weekend to add to this thread.

I will be selling it on here, but I can't just put offers which is a bugger.

Its done 120000km and has a stainless exhaust and good history.

Cheers :)

Tom

Post the applied model codel thats on the plate on top of the strut!

jameswrx 05 July 2011 12:35 PM

What Sti bits does it have?

Silver intercooler, Sti badge on alternator cover, Sti front wing badges, Sti steering wheel and gearknob, Sti seats (a hard one to fake for a wagon because of rear seat) Sti carbon strut brace... To name a few

tommtb 06 July 2011 10:25 AM

On the strut? That's a bit vague for a muppet like me mate sorry?

The Sti bits I have noticed are

Drivers side wing mirror has an Sti logo stamped into the plastic
Sti badges on the front wings
Pink Subaru badge on the front grill
Sti seats

Kind of stuck now as it's at my mum's house til the weekend but will try and head over for a look

Pop the bonnet and on the drivers side strut top ( i think ) there is a plate with various letters and numbers. One of them will say applied model code and it will start GC8......

It'll start GF8 ;)

Sounds likely though, as a few of those bits are expensive to fake. Probably a version 2 (GF8C58D) but might just be a 3 (GF8D5ED).

Cheers so far!
Then I can get pics and get her up for sale :)

Will have larger rear spoilers, STI strut brace Intercooler water spray rather than ABS integral boss and steering wheel. V2 STi wagons are largely WRX with factory STi bits added on so it can be difficult to determine. Also the gearbox code will end B4AA and the engine will be W5PE :)

tommtb 09 July 2011 10:40 AM

Applied Model: GF8B5BD

Engine: EJ20GDW1NE

Transmission: TY752VB3CA

Trim code: 410

Colour code: 406

That's the information I could find :)
There is an Sti (worn) steering wheel in the car
Couldn't tell if there is water spray etc, no strut brace there, but I guess it could have been sold

OR it could not be an Sti :)

hpoolsteve 09 July 2011 11:13 AM

1.Series code G=Impreza S=Forester B=Legacy etc.
2.Body type F=Wagon C=Sedan
3.Engine type 8=2.0L Turbo
4.Year code A=MY93 B=MY94 C=MY95&96 D=MY97 (facelift) E=MY98 F=MY99 G=MY00
5.Number of doors 2=2 door coupe 4=4 door saloon 5=5 door wagon/hatch
6.Model type 8=WRX 7=RA type E=Sti D=Sti Type R & RA
7.Transmission D=5 Speed Manual AWD P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

tommtb 09 July 2011 11:43 AM

The model code definitely ends 5BD not 58D??

Eitherway I guess it's a WRX by the look of things? Just with Sti bits

tommtb 11 July 2011 10:46 AM

Any ideas :)?

jayallen 11 July 2011 04:26 PM

The pre 96 wagon WRX and STI share the same model code so this is one Subaru where the model code wont exactly tell you what it is.

As mentioned some bits to look for are, sti seats, carbon strut brace, IC spray, larger rear spoilers, sti badged steering wheel, alloy intercooler, red inlet manifold, sti on the facia around the clocks and maybe fog lamps covers.

BD?? Strange. Here's another clue. When does the rev counter go into the red? It should be higher than the WRX.

No Wagons came with the IC spray.

jayallen 11 July 2011 07:14 PM

I think you need to read the thread correctly fella.....The car in question is a 96 wagon, the rev limit will be 7k.

Westwood2006 11 July 2011 07:20 PM

Ha ha. Ok. I meant to say "as standard" ;)

jayallen 11 July 2011 07:21 PM

It is standard on pre 96 wagons...:thumb:

Westwood2006 11 July 2011 07:24 PM

Just had a look see at pictures on Piston heads. Filtered by 1996 in the Sti section. Looks like you have me on the 7k red line but I still need convincing about the IC spray! Especially on the wagon.

jayallen 11 July 2011 07:27 PM

What more evidence do you want apart from 2 photos from my old sti wagon?....:lol1: :D

You could have cleaned it before taking those pictures!!! :lol1:

jayallen 11 July 2011 07:58 PM

Believe it of not, those were two photos from the for sale advert!!! :lol1::lol1:

tommtb 12 July 2011 09:12 AM

I don't have the car to check those extra details until Thursday...

But the intercooler was black, couldn't tell about the water spray.

There is a larger than normal rear (top) spoiler, with no lower spoiler. But then there is not front spoiler/lip, but again this could've been changed.
