Did you go for the US or UK adaptors? Just out of interest.. :)

cjquicksilver 05 July 2011 09:46 PM

not sure tbh mate, they require drilling 3 new holes as the adaptors are generaly for classics but they do the job just fine with 3 new holes and 3 self tappers

When I upgraded my Bugeye's front door speakers, I fitted Infinity 605CS components which are 6.5", I made some adaptors from MDF so the magnets didn't touch the window's, made a BIG difference and was pretty easy to fit and make the collars :thumb:

RE54 14 July 2011 12:29 AM

5.25 adapators available from most uk places...6.5 ones available from usa, which means more volume/sound for your money

I did post on here a couple of years ago about the adaptors I got for front and rear. They were easy to fit and no extra drilling required.

Just fitted the US front adaptors, coupled with JBL GT5-6508c 16.5cm 6.5" 210w components, however I'm really not happy with the quality of the sound....

Beginning to think something isn't wired correctly......

Perhaps its the standard head unit?

I fitted Infinty 65.9cs at the fron with uprated Tweeters.
Rears also done with Infinity 42.91 wich I think had a spacer , I fitted these 2 years ago so unsure how the rears fitted.
I think they came with a spacer ring of sorts which I used.

where can i source the adaptors??

i fitted Vibe 6 1/2 components in my blobeye and used Corsa III spacers from Halfrauds.

Update on this; the spacers from EBay that come from the states are too deep. I believe they're roughly 24mm which pushes the speaker too far out and the door card presses against the speaker! It's ripped one of my brand new JBL's!

Anyway, they have gaps all round them also so dont hold bass as well as an MDF spacer. I purchased some 18mm MDF from B&Q, used th ecrap from the states as a template, made a few adjustments around the curvature of the doors to get the mdf spacer flush; then used plenty of sound dampening material and the difference even with the crappy standard head unit is massive.

My advice, buy some MDF and get making your own spacers....only took a few hours....

RE54 22 August 2011 04:07 PM

the ones from usa are fine.

perfect fit?

Well perhaps the over did mine as they were too deep...6mm doesn't sound much but it is when every MM counts...

When you're buying from as far away as the states, you want them to be right....

Was looking at the Corsa III spacers today in-store but they are only for 130mm? How do you fit the 6.5" speakers into them buddy?

RE54 28 August 2011 01:58 PM

i fitted hertz speakers, which are deep, approx 70mm, and they fitted fine, with no clearnace issues.

worth taking another look, certain speakers just wont fit tho, i think 70mm depth is your max

kewe 30 August 2011 08:05 PM

So is the 130mm depth rather than speaker size the halfords ones can take?
