How to get a uk2000 model to the 300hp mark

Might be buying a uk turbo very soon and was wondering how hard is it to get up to the 300hp mark, and what is needed to do it. I was looking at the following
18g turbo
Apexi pfc with right map
bigger injectors

Would this see me right?

cheers

sonic93 04 July 2011 07:47 AM

16g do it easy
440s
and sure u can esl board yours so all quite cheap aslong as u got exhaust ,filter ect

pimmo2000 04 July 2011 07:59 AM

Filter, decat, bigger turbo and remap.. I'm at 305

How many miles has the engine got on it? i take it you are looking for reliable 300BHP, if so and a high miles engine then suggest rebuild is budgeted for as well.

300 is quite easy as said above.

With the mods you listed, you'll probably be looking at 340+ bhp i think.

Mine just about to hit the big 100 .. Having a bigger Turbo means its easier to drive off boost, fuel is actually better and the power is there if I need it.

Save yourself some money and don't buy a MY98 UK Turbo (S reg) like I did... :)

Get a 99/00 instead.

MattyB1983 04 July 2011 09:22 AM

What's your budget ?? These old motors are getting very cheap now, you may be able to pick one up that has already had the money spent on it.

Agreed. There enough of them out there. However, if you're only looking to spend around £2k, think long and hard about if you can afford another £2k minimum if the engine goes pop. And just out of interest, why 300bhp? Have you driven a standard one yet?

Brun 04 July 2011 06:29 PM

A 98 S reg can be an MY99!

FitnessFreak83 04 July 2011 06:50 PM

just out of interest Brun, how can an S reg be a MY99??? You mean engine swap or something???... :wonder:

actually scratch that, i presume your refering to year of manufacture etc right... 98 = S, 99 also on a S too i take it??? :confused:

how come the my99/00 are better than the earlier versions??i have a my00 uk and would like to know if they are different in anyway to the earlier model apart from the facelift front etc.?

Brun 04 July 2011 07:43 PM

The Model Years (MY) generallychanged in the August (i think it was???) of the previous year. So for instance, you can easily buy an MY98 which was built in 97 and an MY97 which was built in 96 etc. etc.

The easiest way to spot an MY99 is with the front brakes which have Subaru written on them (providing someone hasbn't upgraded the brakes on an earlier model)

MY99/00 are prefered as you can remap the ecu, although with more and more options available this isn't as important now. Other things include the better brakes and generally a more modern look - although long in the tooth it's self now.

MRSIMPSON 05 July 2011 09:59 AM

As Brun says, the difference is the styling - front bumper, grill, lights, quite a few engine components, the interior, brakes, and most importantly if costs are an issue and you're hoping for 300bhp your ECU is not mappable. You'd need a new ECU and map which is around £800 in my experience.

Easiest way to check is your coil pack, is it in the middle of your manifold or to the right, in the middle and you have a MY98.

The MY98 was a crossover model so you can get all kinds of component combinations on them really, different interiors ect.

After I bought mine and spoke to a few people about upgrades most recommended not to bother, and to save for an STi rather than starting with a UK Turbo. Of course you can make a high bhp UK turbo, but i believe it's cheaper and easier in the long run to start with an STi.

To find out just check your VIN
and assuming UK car
The 10th character is the model year.............

V=97
W=98
X=99
Y=2000
1=01
2=02
3=03

The reaason i say 300hp mark was because i use to have a wrx running that power, and that was good n the road. I dont think the bloke is going to accept my offer this is the car in question what you think, im going to get rid of the roof scoop if he accepts lol.

9 owners, no service history. Best to know what you are looking for or you could be staring down the barrel of a money pit.

Once something serious goes wrong with these cars they are barely worth repairing.

dan.evans 05 July 2011 07:44 PM

Whats the main things i should be looking for tomoz then?

scoobygreg 05 July 2011 07:56 PM

wow 2 mths thats along time hes had that car

that alone would put me of

MattyB1983 05 July 2011 10:11 PM

I wouldn't buy that one.
Don't rush out and buy the first one that takes your fancy. Sit back, take your time and look at a few.

For me, the biggest put off is an advert full of spelling mistakes or a poorly written advert.

That put me off aswell. Please oh please if you do buy it remove those chuffing decals they look stupid.

scoobyboothy 06 July 2011 09:17 AM

My MY99 'S' has

FMIC
apexi power fc
turbo back decat
fuelabs fpr
K&N cone
3 port boost solenoid
TD05 18g
and runs 322Bhp with 1.4bar

Just needs a uprated pump to squeeze out a few more BHP

chose a power fc over mapping cos it worked out cheaper in the long run, I could get more of money back if I decided to sell the power fc than if I sild a standard ecutek'd ecu
