But when cars are scrapped the logbook must be filled in detailing that the car is being scrapped. There is a part on the right hand side of the V5. This is then sent to DVLA so they are aware that the car is no more.
Would that not come up when you do the above search as DVLA will know if the car is scrapped

It doesn't appear to acknowledge scrapping taking place.

All the old 80s and early 90s cars that my family owned at some point show up as being "unlicensed" and there is no way they are all sitting outside numerous houses rusting away.

Example - Dad had a Y reg escort that shows up as last being taxed in '94, but it shows up as unlicensed rather than scrapped.
