Question for all you boffins out there:

With Summer on its way, I was toying with the idea of an FMIC, but my insurance renewal has just put me off!!!

So now looking at waterspray (or similar) on my existing unit.

Been thinking, water is fine, but unless you have an enormous boot mounted tank, you are gonna empty the normal washer bottle sized container very quicky - is that right?

So looking at alternatives. I work in electronics and we use a freezer spray for fault finding that cools almost instantly to about -50 or something. Great, I thought, ideal for precooling the intercooler, which is I'm told, pretty much a large heatsink.

However, the freezer spray, though not flammable itself is in aerosol form and I believe that the propellant IS flammable. It says on the cannister, do not expose to temps above 50 degrees and the exhaust/turbo ain't that far away !!!

I want a cold intercooler, not an engine fire!!

So what about CO2? It's -76 (I think) when it leaves a fire extinguisher, could that not be used?

Or would these gases, pass straight through the intercooler with the flow of air through the scoop and have no effect at all?

Anyone any ideas at all on this, I'd love to hear them.

I went to see them today and they said they have got one system running on a car at the moment but as they have'nt got their arses in gear its not readily available as a kit as such.

But as they do NOS (Nigel Bowles has one of their nitous kits :D ) he said its all the same bits apart from a bar has to be made up to inject the c02 across the intercooler :)

The kit costs around £450 with the NOS bottle in the boot and a refill costs about £10

Today with an ambient temperature of 22 degrees when driving briskly ;) my inlet temperatures were around 40degrees, i then got out and sprayed the intercooler with a co2 fire extinguisher ;) inlet temperatures then dropped to 25 degrees :)
So in theory the co2 system should work the same way :D

Stop faffing about....

Get yourself a nice ERL Water Injection kit. You'll see some nice gains.

Why does a FMIC hurt your insurance - mine did'nt budge when I fitted it - but then again I didnt increase the cars value either!

(sounds Like you need to give A plan a ring)

Waterspray is fine but as far as I'm concerned is pretty much a waste of time - thats why I removed mine when I had a top mount....

Your car has'nt gone bang yet then?

You definately need the WI to reduce your temps with the boost your running!

Hi spoke Nitro Express in the states, they do one for the scooby its around £300, they have a supplier here called teeside motorsports who sell them. Have'nt managed to speak to them yet.

I have lost the part number, I am sourcing mine from the states its cheaper.

The gains typically were between 40-65 BHP, I don't know how true this is but its worth a try. The bottles that they ship a good for about 5 1/4 mile runs.

my mates got a pulsar gtir with water spray and he uses methenol instead water, apparently its much colder?

I will be very surprised if this works better than water.
Except if you use very large quantities.

Re the FMIC and insurance, I thought any mod that increased power would add to the insurance. And to top that, Tesco wanted another £400 for having 18s!!! So it put me off.

I'll have to see your water injection at Well Lane in June although I imagine the same will be true insurance wise [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

I told my insurance about the 18's and the FMIC - no increase in premium - but then I didnt ask for a value rise as we all know mods do not (I could repeat that) increase the value of your car

So car with lets say £16k of mods I would be very reluctant to pay much above book price for..... anyhow I digress

Who says it increases power - RR's can always be, erm manipulated!

Just cos I have it in a mag that the power is 349bhp I can just as validly provide an RR print showing only 295bhpn at another place.....

Nitrous - pahhhh - what a load of tosh - it does nothing for the lbs torque, costs a fortune on the bottles, is potentially lethal (I know of one car blowing up in the owners garage and nearly destroying the house at the same time) and its only really worth trying on an uprated internals car, unless you opt for a 30bhp jet.

But then whats the point - you dont notice it much anyway!
