Just got my first scooby! :D

Hey all im new to the site. Just got a 96 2.0GL I thought Id say hi to all.

Btw for any1 who is interested I got my insurance at 1900 quid for the year @ £157 per month. Still worth it though! haha!

Thanks all,

Tony (ignis999)

classic

Shame it was not 25 years old instead of 15! Classic car insurance and no road tax!
i have a 19 year old and 17 year old wanting on the road, insurance costs for the under 25's are just not funny!
Enjoy the flat four experience and the four wheel grip, probably the best car to have an accident in, if you want to survive!
I once rolled a 5 door sideways two times, got out and walked away. Had it been a Fiat.......

ignis999 22 June 2011 11:39 PM

hahaha! Im only 22 with a years driving experience. Im not adivsing it but putting my mum on the insurance and saying the legal owner of the car is my dad (v5 still in my name) saved me £600! Its truly the best car ive ever driven :D

ignis999 22 June 2011 11:40 PM

ill keep that accident quote in mind, if I die I will haunt you! hahaha

ScoobyStu82 22 June 2011 11:47 PM

Welcome along matey, what's your plans for it and............get some pics up!!

Slugmeister 22 June 2011 11:47 PM

crash!

My, then 16 year old woke from a drunken slumber on the second roll and accused me of trying to kill him! Should have gone to the Fiat garage! Lolz:D

Keep safe, its a jungle out there on the tarmac. I drive in Eastern Europe a lot, so the grass verge is usually the best place to be!:thumb:

ignis999 22 June 2011 11:56 PM

Got no plans for it just yet. I need to get some new brake pads and a drivers side CV boot fitted. Its only done 69k and in great nic for the age. The previous owner took it to shows in the summer and thats it! MOT and Tax is sept so thats my current plan haha! May plonk a pipercross on it to free up the air flow :) Ill pop a pic up now

ignis999 23 June 2011 12:00 AM

Pics are up :) In my garage

Slugmeister 23 June 2011 08:04 AM

Filter

For insurance it will probably be best to put a K and N high flow filter element rather than the Pipercross kit. If Plod examines it, the car will look standard and there will be no declaration of modification.:D

Welcome to the forum mate :thumb:

CREWJ 23 June 2011 10:45 AM

£1900 for a GL

That's harsh!

Welcome mate :D

Not sure where you get 25 years from, for no road tax it's 1972, classic insurance will only apply if the insurance co class the car as a classic ;)

Tony:)

Thought the gl was fwd?

Slugmeister 23 June 2011 12:16 PM

frozen boundaries

You are right, but it shows how long i have been a car owner!
When introduced it was 25 years old cars tax excempt, but the government (i.e. Tony and the fat Scottish gordie the goldfish) decided to freeze it in 1998.
I used to run a road tax free TVR, with classic car insurance at 130 quid a year until the late 90's.
Pre classic insurance quotes were 1300 per year prior to NCB.

jaygsi 23 June 2011 12:19 PM

So what brings you to scooby site?

Slugmeister 23 June 2011 12:19 PM

The 1800 may have been!

My first scoob was at the time of the GL, there was an 1800 that was FWD, all the 2000 models were hi / lo 4WD.

jaygsi 23 June 2011 12:21 PM

Anyway back to subject, the gl an't a bad replica, as though, i've seen a few nice models on here that have gone for euro look, really does look nice.

Slugmeister 23 June 2011 12:24 PM

Interest?

Have been running scoobs since 1996

ignis999 23 June 2011 05:32 PM

Hey the GL I have is a constant 4WD. Why would I buy a FWD scoob? ;) lol!

Yeah its harsh insurance but all my bills come to less than half my income so its all good! Living with the parents has some definate benefits!

Ive also been told I HAVE to wave/nod/aknowledge all other scooby drivers I see? This ture or do I look a prat waving at strangers? haha
