No it was a Escort Twincan circa 1968 ran the lotus engine from the Lotus Cortina
RS1600 Escort had the same head as a RS1800 albeit a 1836cc bottom end.

Its a crap add but yeh there going for more than that at the mo, i had a yellow mk2 rs2000 years ago swapped it for a cossie, wish i still had it now, would be worth a fortune, sold the 3door cossie too just before they shot up in price lol

But that completely misses the point of why the RS1800 was created.
The RS2000 was always intended to be a fast road car, like a modern day Gti.
The RS1800 was built in limited numbers, so ford could say it was a production model, loaded with goodies on it to make it a better base for a rally car.
hence the comparison is not really valid.

In the world of Classic Fords these are regarded as the Holly Grail and sit in the same stable as the RS1700T and RS200
NOT to be confused with a regular RS

The major difference from a std RS Mexico being the Cosworth BDA twin cam engine, in place of the 8v pinto engine.

I nearly bought one of these around 20 years ago from a rally spares place in Burnley, the name escapes me at the moment.

Not the first or last car buying mistake i will make...lol..

Hmmm, nor me. I nearly bought a 1970 BMW 3.0CSL with the 'Batmobile' kit on it in 1982/3. it was priced at £1500.00. Needed some work mind but if only...

My brother in law used a mk 11 rs mexico he'd had from new as a donor for a crappy kit car he built, that is a real pile of sh1t and sits in his garage rotting away.. only seen it on the road once in about 12yrs.

What kind of life is that living in an oxygen tent

fatscoobfella1 18 June 2011 11:10 PM

Think you will find most 100k cars live a pampered life like that..

FurballPhil 19 June 2011 12:50 AM

All us older guys will have at one time had the opportunity to have bought one of these, or similar late 70`s to mid 80`s classics back in a day they were second hand car prices... But didn`t cos we fancied something that was cheap n cheerful...

There was a Guy local to mr selling a Mk1 Escort RS Turbo.... Less than 10,000 original miles..... He asked £25,000 (And Got It Too)

Similar Story on an Opel Manta GTe Exclusive.. Was bought new by owner of the supplying garage in Doncaster (Danum Motors), never registered, kept in a collection. Had less than 200 miles sold for more than £50,000.

I guess it`s not down to physical worth, but what price a buyer puts on a dream of owning something....

baldy wr1 19 June 2011 01:16 AM

its called nostalgia people will pay £££££££££££ for it doesnt matter what it is car bike painting ,something that makes you say" i remember when " if you got the money and can afford it buy it ..anything with motorsport heritage cars bikes wotever is gona demand top $ escorts just happend to be the workin mans chariot ..hence crazy prices ...a friend of mine has just bought a genuine unused mk1 rs2000 bare shell never had a nut or bolt fitted logbooked with tags £18000 it was 21st shell off the production line with all genuine documentation and guess what, hes goin to store it for 15 yr he has genuine ford doors boot and bonnet from the seventies when the mk2 went into production ..the way things are pricing he should get £50000 ..because some1 will say "i remember when"

No im not having a laugh! Imo it'll sell, its rare as fook. Much rarer then an rs2000 and all the other old oval's i dont have blinkers on i wouldnt buy it myself but i know someone will ;) and reading through this thread im notthe only one that thinks it.

If you smell bull**** its because your window is open :norty:

i know the person selling this car and anyone who is into the classic fords will know the name of the actual owner of this car and the company they ran,the reason its not being sold by him on his old ebay account is because of previous alledged form that prevents him from trading as what he used to go by so he gets people to flog stuff for him now on other ebay accounts.
only about 3 weeks ago he sold a genuine tidy mk1 lotus cortina for around 20 grand and he has had 2 lotus cortinas in classic ford magazine.
its a genuine car the rs1800 i'm told and the seller is certainly not skint infact quite the opposite although looks like it and yes they can't spell correctly but that doesn't bother them type of people :lol1:

oh yeh and if you saw how he keeps his lotus cortinas and cosworths the 1800 looks like its been cherished as most of his stock is covered in **** being on a farm an all

hi mate,i have in my possesion a 1978 autosport magazine and theres a garage in london who are or were a rallye sport dealer called len street and they had a rs1800 for sale for £2800 that was a 1976 car,to put it into perspective the same dealer is selling a yr old 3ltr capri for the same money so you can see its the history and status of them cars and the fact its got a cosworth engine that pushes prices up :)

scooby-boy-123 19 June 2011 08:46 PM

I am looking forward to the "relisted due to....." :lol1:

austinwrx 20 June 2011 11:28 AM

I just dont understand how they fetch the prices, because all we're talking is a 2 door body shell, with slightly different engines or trim.

they're not even that fast or even well trimmed or even built. I can understand an untouched, time capsule or one with rally history making money: but jeez......... there are certainly some fools and their money wishing to be parted out there

A History lesson needed I think.

austinwrx 29 June 2011 05:06 PM

doubt it, I'm old enough to remember these new ! 40K for a 70's 2 door 'scort with an 1800 engine in ????

my neighbour has a pretty tidy 77 mexico in his garage: yep its nice, its history: but I cannot see its value beyond 5-10K perhaps.
