V5/6 JDM STi red struts part numbers?

Anyone got Subaru part numbers for these red V5/6 struts?

Has GOT TO be for the red coloured V5/6 STi red struts, front struts, if not for rears too

Here we go:

Spring/Strut Part Numbers
I was looking at all the different options for Impreza Suspension and found that quite often i cant find the part numbers for the stuff i want to price.

Can you guys help me out with the favored Spring/Strut set up and model numbers for the items.

I also noticed that some stuff is no longer available, is there alternates that are equal?

Chris

Are you looking for 2 as an upgrade mate because your current ones are shot/leaking, or was it a general enquiry ?.

My one (nsf) is shot, as I have only recently bought the car, am looking to get the car drivable. This is my priority. Why do you ask?

You can have it totally refurbed at Bilstein with new rod & seals for about £90.00 per strut

I've been looking into that option - 'not serviceable' is what I've been told by the usual suspects (Powerstation, Bilstein etc)

midnight 17 June 2011 01:59 PM

It depends on which strut you have :Suspiciou,if you have bilstein dampers ;)then they definetley ARE serviceable, as i had my prodrive ones serviced 2 months ago at bilstein in hinckley. Give them a call on 01455283407 :thumb:

Hi, I'm from the US and I have a set of now-broken Prodrive WR Bilstein struts. The rebuild cost for the struts are high here, so I was wondering if the v5/v6 struts is a good fit for the Eibach P1 red springs since I can purchase the v5/v6 struts from Subaru America based on the part numbers provided by @bonesetter.

Pardon my lack of knowledge on these parts as we didn't get any turbo models in the US before 02. Are v5 & v6 struts the same?

I have a 2000 Impreza RS coupe (GM6).

Thank you very much for the info.

myblackwrx 22 July 2016 09:01 PM

V5/6 reds are the same.
Speak to a poster called '2pot' as he seems to know a whole load of info about suspension and the best combos.

Also how much would you be charged for Bilstein rebuild?

Yup, got in touch with him. Thank you!

Bilstein in Poway, CA is charging a based price of $127.50 USD not including rebuild parts nor housing & round-trip shipping. I sent some photos for estimate, and got a quote of $150 per damper purely based on photos of assembled strut, so it could be more.

The strut housings are also quite rusted on mine, and Bilstein in CA said they don't stock housings, so I also have to somehow find new housings as well. I'm guessing the total cost for everything will probably be $500+ for 2 rear struts.

I have the exact same set!! I may just get new rear V6 STi struts and stash the Bilsteins in storage for now. I've heard that the grease in even brand new struts can now dry out sitting in inventory for 16+ years & should grease them before putting on; is that true?

Thank you for helping out!

bonesetter 23 July 2016 07:45 AM

Your guess is as good as any (including mine), but if they are originals you're getting, then 16 years does seem long enough for anything to dry - maybe?

I suppose you could have a quick search or even try phoning a 'grease manufacture' and asking to speak to someone in their tech dept?

Seems a bit poor that they won't find/get you new housings as you want to give them business. Have you spoken to any other Bilstein supplier?

AncientRS 23 July 2016 10:00 PM

From what I was told by Bilstein, the Poway, CA location is the only one that can service these particular struts. But thanks for the inspiration; since it's so expensive, perhaps I'll give the UK location a call since I'm on the east coast of US in NY.

Would you happen to know which UK Bilstein can service these?

myblackwrx 23 July 2016 10:57 PM

http://www.bilstein.com
Then just select United Kingdom

AncientRS 23 July 2016 11:39 PM

Thank you. 2pot also put me in touch with a gentleman at Bilstein UK. I will report back once I get a quote.

Well, it's been a week, and I haven't heard anything back from Bilstein UK after sending them several emails.

I'll likely get V6 STi struts as Bilstein has disappointed me greatly.

bonesetter 31 July 2016 10:31 AM

I'm afraid Bilstein's once prestigious rep is at an all time low - customer service and their products too

Motorsport folk I talk to, speak of their coilovers (B14's etc) to generally suck (as you might say)

AncientRS 31 July 2016 10:33 AM

It's such a shame, WR99 was a great product. Any idea how much I can sell them for?

True - mine are going great, was out in the car just yesterday

Wouldn't like to hazzard a guess at value

Ancient, if it was David's name you were given as a contact then he's been on holiday this past week.

I'm currently chasing him for my refurbed WR99 kit. Dealing with them has been frustrating but I'm hopeful the stress will be worth it! From what I've read the Bilstein struts are superior to the KYB inverted reds but the proof will be in the pudding. Don't give up on them yet chap :)

Paul.

AncientRS 01 August 2016 08:39 AM

Ah, thanks for the info, Paul. Any idea when he'll be available and how much it costs for a full rebuild?

I'm trying to get hold of him as I type this lol.

Depends if your housings can be saved.

A rebuild into existing (good) housings is £80+VAT (20%) per strut, recoating is an extra £35+VAT per strut.

Hope that helps mate?

Paul.

Edit: I've just this second (1.45pm) got through to him so he is about today :-)

AncientRS 01 August 2016 02:01 PM

Definitely helps. Thank you. Sounds like it's cheaper than US Bilstein.
