no-where for cold air !! help

hi all,
ive ordered a rcm induction kit , which should arive soon :norty:
so have removed my standard airbox, wing, headlamp and front bumper !!!! just to find best route for cold air pipe . only after all that work there really isnt anywhere what so ever to feed it !! apart from fog light which i want to keep

do you think fitting a scoop and duct to the back of this vent will vent enough air to filgter if done correctly ??

Will be fine down there, i have a standard box with panel filter and a pipe running down into there and it runs fine.

RobsyUK 14 June 2011 09:02 PM

you could mould three tubes into one.. that would be coolio

initialD 14 June 2011 10:22 PM

well originally i was going to fit 2 vents into the front bumper either side of number plate " like gtr" but after removing bumper there is no way of doing that !!! so thinking of using one of the vents ive bought and fitting that to the back of vent in picture ? so that should have the same effect as the 3 pipes into 1 idea , well ........ thats the plan :wonder:

initialD 15 June 2011 05:13 PM

sorted :D
the plan is to make the perfect vent for inside the bumper out of card along with a heat shield for the induction kit then have them made from aluminium from local metal works factory ? hopefully they able to do it for me ? it should look and work really good when finished ? ill start a thread soon with pics :D

just as a matter of interest are you running big power to necessitate a CAI kit

initialD 15 June 2011 06:35 PM

Not as of yet , about 350bhp. but plans in future yes , also look really nice when done :thumb:

bigsinky 15 June 2011 06:49 PM

you know it will need a remap don't you?

Alan Jeffery 15 June 2011 07:33 PM

As you can see with this one, air is just "wafted" at it, so it really isn't a big deal. The engine will suck in a damn sight more than would enter the filter from that duct, so it's just allowed to come in from all over the engine bay.
I think if there was something not right about the design, they'd have dealt with it!

And yes, it will need remapping..

ohhhhh shiney, shiney. Alan you big tart :D

Actually, that's the RCM Gobstopper! It just illustrates what I mean about cold air intakes. If that car doesn't need one, neither does anyone else's.

I've got an RCM induction and have seen the Gobstopper and cars at RCM having the insert fitted to the inner wing, it's a very neat job but the Bug I saw having it fitted had a cold air feed as well. I think the Gobstopper had so much space around the engine that ambient air came from all directions :)

It's a long story but I'd always try and get as much cold air into the induction kit as possible, how about doing some change to the shape of the side vent and make it into more of a NACA style ?

heres what im doing :D im having this made of aluminium

http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/...1308245251.jpg

then fitting this vent in it like so

cold air pipe will be fixed into a aluminium heatshield " not mocked up yet " the induction kit will then be fitted inside it , completely surrounded by it apart from front to get a little more air :D

and if it dont work, you could always attach it to a vacuum cleaner! :)

Looks good!

Midlife...... 16 June 2011 07:11 PM

as an aside you don't need to make an enclosed box, just a shaped divider to separate the cone from the rest of the engine bay :D

yea true . but thinking polished with 3 sides and a bottom , with the blue end of pipe neatly sticking through :D
