I used calypso campers in salisbury to finish a conversion of a vw T4 to a full camper.

can't recommend them enough. Bear in mind I live in Yorkshire, I thought he was worth travelling for and at the time I was massively into the VW scene, so had done my research on these things.

calypso camper seems really good, my old man fancies a split screen, non of us know anything about the dub scene so lots of research going on.

There is a self build going on in the projects section. Looks really good.

I had these convert the inside , not the cheapest around but use top quality materials and their work was fantastic

http://www.newwavecustomconversions.co.uk/about-us

Rough figures I spent

£6k + vat for the van
£2k for the respray
£1k for the wheels and tyres
£550 for the VMAXX coilovers
£1k on the F&R bumpers , headlights and lower sportline copy lip
£1k on front seats ( second hand 6 months old )
£300 for the rear seat
£3k to board and carpet ect the inside ,supply and fit side and rear windows , swivel seat bases , alcantara headlining , led lights , recover the rear seat the same as the fronts ,
£3k on the sound system !!

It soon adds up !

a massive mistake a lot of people make is buying vans to convert instead of minibuses.

i.e you want to start with a caravelle or multivan and not an empty van.

all the windows, interior panels, sound insulation etc etc are already there. van conversions are ultimately not as good as either a vw conversion or caravelle conversion.

having said that, the type of materials and conversions these days are far better than they once were.

its a lot cheaper slinging a seat/bed and units in a caravelle than an empty van.

I disagree , the finish and attention to detail on mine is better than the factory finish which is why I went this way

Retro is cool, but don't forget that your knees are the crumple zone. :(

Yep one of my neighbours mrs nearly lost a leg in a low speed crash around town in one.

Another thank god for the queens medical centre nottingham.

if you want a split screen, think big money these days.

plus with the older ones, reduction gear boxes meaning 55mph max.

so you then end up fitting better engines, better g.boxes and it just goes on.
they look great, but its part of a scene: as a vehicle to really use and camp in, a pile of poo.

I suspect most do nothing than be driven to a field each year, polished highly and brough home again.

By coincidence I watched wheeler dealers last night and they converted a VW transporter van into a sleeper.
Didn't seem hugely expensive, obviously standard of finish is no where near as high as Ian Godneys.
Looked ok when it was completed, they sold it to Ed China at a knock down price :)
