Is there a device i can fit to my car to warn me if i'm speeding?

Three times now i've been done.

35, 34 and 40 in a 30. Three times.

Is there anything i can fit to my car to warn me if i'm going over 30 in a 30mph zone, preferably an audio beep or something.

I have a Garmin sat nav, but i dont think it has that facility.

Jamz3k 09 June 2011 12:54 PM

Yup, your brain.

austinwrx 09 June 2011 12:55 PM

most cars these days have a big gauge on the dash with a stick on them that alters as you drive faster...............

CREWJ 09 June 2011 12:56 PM

You should pay more attention.

I have a garmin and that tells me if I'm speeding.

Is that where the speed indicator turns red, or is it audible.

Sit in the driver's seat, hands firmly on the wheel. Look straight ahead, now tilt your head down a few degrees.

NOW CAN YOU SEE THE BIG F*CKING DIAL? - IT'S CALLED A SPEEDOMETER!

Hope that helps :D

There is a device fitted to every car warning you of speeding. It's called a speedo. Try looking at it.

Leslie 09 June 2011 01:17 PM

Don't think I would have posted about that!

There is also another way to prevent further points..

1. Take one envelope, one 1 st class stamp.
2. Take both parts of driving licence and insert into envelope.
3. Write a nice letter to DVLA saying you are not fit to, or deserve to have a licence.
4. Post all to DVLA in sheepshaggerland..

:D

On a more serious note, when you are in a 30MPH zone, try going down to 3rd gear.

Rob_Impreza99 09 June 2011 01:36 PM

Just get a tin of black spray paint, where the sign for 30 is just change it to "30 ish" .... Take a couple of photos as evidence and you will get off no prob.

Aaargh, thats a good point. There were no signs saying it was a 30 zone.

BrownPantsRacing 09 June 2011 01:46 PM

The device is called a wife! Mine makes an annoying noise every time I go over the limits too far!

Good point. Having a diesel i always try and get into the highest gear as early as possible.

You know the only bits of road that don't have speed repeater signs?

Motorways and 30 limits.

If there are no signs and you aren't on a motorway then give yourself a ring on the cluephone and slow down.

Observation is everything. There are always, always limit signs when speeds change. If you can look into a residential side street and there is no sign then the speed limit is the same as the road you are on and you can make a pretty good stab that it is 30.

There are also other things about spacing of lamp posts and the white lines you can look out for. Suggest a review of the Highway Code!

Stick a bake bean can to the underside of the accelerator pedal. Note that it doesn't matter which brand you choose, just use whatever is in your cupboard.

...and normal NSL roads. Though they're rapidly becoming 50/40 etc with repeaters hidden behind this year's verge growth. The same growth that hides the PC Copper with the ray gun...

scoobyster 09 June 2011 02:54 PM

My mum has an old Garmin i3. I've added the Pocket GPS World camera database to it and it makes a faint beep when you're entering a speed camera zone (fixed or any favourite spot for the camera vans) but beeps loudly and continuously if you're speeding in that zone.

My TomTom on the other hand just shows your indicated speed in red if you're speeding (anywhere its speed limit database is filled and accurate), and simply beeps as you enter a camera zone, irrespective of your speed - not half as good as the Garmin from that point of view.

22BUK 09 June 2011 02:55 PM

OP's from Lincolnshire - that would explain it...

Didn't know tractors could do over 30 :lol1:

True! hat off there. Sooooo..... If there are no speed limits posted, look to the left or right and if it looks like houses and there are street lights etc then assume thirty. If there are cows or a general stench of fertiliser is coming through the air vents then away you go!

It starts beeping with a message on screen saying what the speed limit in the area is.

The speed limit they flag is not 100% reliable, but it's fairly good.
