Easy problem solve for someone......

Hi.

Recently purchased a 93 classic WRX import (closed deck engine)

All seems ok.... except when i go round a roundabout or a sharp (ish) bend at a 'reasonable' speed.. it struggles to respond immediately when i put accelorator down.. even if its just giving it slight acceloration!! The problem goes away after 5 - 10 seconds.. but i obviously i need the power to get the grip.. and i end up coasting which isnt good.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. It just feels like the fuel isnt making its way to the engine quick enough. I'm thinking upgraded fuel pump... but maybe you guys have other suggestions.

Cheers

Fuel level!

Did it exclusively happen with less than a 1/4 filled tank?

Yes the fuel level was under a qtr tank... i am filling it to the brim again this evening so will see what happens... thanks!

If it is the fuel level causing it... is there a fix (apart from toppin the tank up all the time!!)

It's a "no no" on a Scoob. It doesn't like being cornered hard with 1/4 tank or less - starves the pump pickup, it seems. This is potentially not good - can make an engine run lean big style!

Aside from going to the expense of fitting a bigger, secondary out-of-tank pump and swirl pot arrangement, there is another option...... Just simply regard 1/4 full as actually 'empty', and never let it go below that level. ;)

If you brim each time, then you'll still have 3/4 tank to hoon with e.g. roughly 150-180 miles worth of range.

Ah not seen a fuel surge thread for ages :D

Tony:)

PS, it doesnt matter if you have a closed deck block or not, its the internals that are weak and pop out the sides when they let go :(

Good stuff gents thanks.. I will endeavour to keep tank topped up over quarter fill and only pick my grandma up when it's below !!! ;o))

Cheers
