Quick Q. With normal average driving - not using the turbo too much, how many miles can you get on a tank of fuel?......and does the last quarter of the tank disappear quicker than the rest, as though some git is following you with a syphon tube? The car in question is 94 WRX (in silver - if that makes a difference)

ktm1974 20 April 2002 10:35 PM

i have 94 wrx, from full (right up the filler tube aswell) i get about 380-400 km(230ish miles). the fuel gauge is not correct on the last 1/4 as when it reads empty (no low level light)it still has about 10 litres in

i have a 99 uk turbo and do around 200-230 miles per tank..

I've noticed urban traffic driving causes it to guzzle fuel and booting it guzzles fuel.

Doing 70mph on an M/Way (or Dual Carridgeway) it seems pretty good - the fuel gauge doesnt move for ages...

tommorules 21 April 2002 01:22 AM

Constant 56 mph=37 MPG
70 MPH= 34 MPG
90 MPH= 24 MPG (theoretical obviously) ;-)
Bad week at work=17 MPG.

I never go under the 1/4 tank mark 'cos I don't want to stir the crap that probably lurks down there.

190 miles down to quarter left sounds about right at average 23 MPG, for standard MY97 'average'.

I'm driving a 93WRX and I manage to get 300kms a tank on a good week..... although saying that I managed to get just over 400 from sitting on the motorway at 80 for hours...

But hey.. who buys a preza for fuel economy ? ? :)

ZIPPY 22 April 2002 02:50 PM

I get 280 urban with Optimax and 325+ at 90 on a motorway run,
my car is more economical at 90 mph than 70mph.MY01.

I've been looking at this for a while with my 94 Sti, over the past few months I have managed from 26 to 29 MPG (round about 300 miles per tank).

Has improved lately, since I go four new tyres - must have had the wrong pressures.

I don't drive in cities/towns very often, mostly on national speedlimit roads this will probably help.

Hope this helps...

Ha! 300 miles per tank?? I wish...

Wife uses my96 turbo for work every day, across the town, rush hour traffic..6 miles each way engine just getting hot (at least thats a small blessing) and we manage the lofty heights of 21 mpg.

200 miles or there abouts on 10 gallons. Still...gotta have one :)

ukhuskynox 22 April 2002 06:06 PM

it's a scooby, stop worrying about the MPG and drive it :)

DGRALLYING 22 April 2002 09:38 PM

I've got a 1992 Legacy Estate Turbo and driving very slow for about 240 miles (a full tank of petrol) it works out at about 22.7 MPG

RRH 22 April 2002 10:33 PM

MY01-
mixed driving- no motorway but loads of dual carriageway and roundabouts and a bit of x-country b roads and 'whites'
bloody appalling fuel consumption, between 12 and 19mpg.
big grin though:D

TKH 23 April 2002 09:21 PM

Who gives a s**t what mpg you get think of the joy of speed and Splat i would be very worried with 26 + mpg something is definitley wrong i.e you need to put your foot on top of the throttle not under it :D

Regards
TIM

P.S. RRH what are whites ?

Avi 23 April 2002 09:39 PM

And how much does it cost to fill a tank with optimax then?

lumby 23 April 2002 09:52 PM

About 220 miles 93 WRX and its on Empty suspect theres a bit more in the tank but haven't had the B***s to take a risk/chance

RRH 23 April 2002 10:59 PM

TKH-
whites are roads without an 'a' or 'b' classification, but you knew that.
anyway, to what do we owe the pleasure???

Average 260 mile per tank in my 97 UK scoob on normal unleaded. Driving like an old fart in a metro round town works out at about 24MPG, strangely driving like a loony also works out at 24MPG! 90MPH on on motorway gives 27MPG.

My advice. Get a cheap knacker to hack around town every day and use the scooby when your pay packet arrives! Mines a D-reg Nissan sunny (£250) and does 35MPG revving the nuts off it with the auto-choke stuck on (dodgy thermostat)!

highlander 29 April 2002 02:42 PM

With my 93MY WRX - RA ECU, Full DeCAT exhaust (287bhp) - I get around 200 miles to the tank - doesn't make much difference how I drive it except when I really give it a spanking the fuel consumption increases dramatically - however so does the size of the grin on my face :-)

And yes the last quarter on the guage drops much more quickly anytime I let the needle drop that low.

RichieB 30 April 2002 02:22 PM

Never worse than 24mpg, and recently as high as 29 mpg !!! Check every tankful because I'm a bit of a stats anorak :D

Have been accused on this board of being a pussy with the accelerator, but all I can say is I don't get passed very often ! Can't understand road use leading to figs in the teens....these people must always be in the wrong gear and on the brakes as far as I can see.

Cheers,

Richie
