4 weeks ago i paid a 5k deposit on a S reg Nov 98 (MY99)5 DOOR turbo from a Subaru Dealer.

The car has almost 22k and has a full history etc....

As part of the deal i agreed that the car has a cambelt and 37,500 mile service (i think the cambelt one anyway) as it was due in terms of age not miles.

Due to circumstances i will be getting the car next week when the salesman is on holiday. The service was a verball agreement as i a said a FULL HISTORY car means age as well as miles.

Am i right in thinking it is due for a cambelt and a major service even though the miles are not enough but time elapsed is?

What do i do if i get there and it is not done , how do i check

I may be worrying about nothing but i want it spot on as i have waited so long.

Comments and advice please

Just had a look at teh Subaru service schedule it should done at 45,000 mile service or 36 months old (which ever is the sooner). I can scan and email you the schedule if you like ?

Cheers

Ta mate as i thought. It is due in terms of age as it is a Nov 98 and therefor due Nov 01. So is actually 5 months overdue. Surely a Subaru dealer can not call this full history and refuse to do it?

No need to scan it over, thanks anyway just wanted to be sure.

Will have to wait and see.

if your buying it from a subaru dealer find out if it has the standard extended warranty (known as a subaru proven used car) then it doesn't matter. I had the same problem and they refused to sell me the car until it was done (obviously important!). If it is not an official dealer then take it to a mechanic and have it independantly checked.

IMHO I would demand it is done...

Had the same problem with mine mate, except I didn't know till 6 months after I'd bought the car, It was 3yrs old when I bought it and had only done 30,000 miles, My local dealer spotted that the 3year 45,000 mile service had not been done when I picked the car up all they had done was a 30,000 mile service and telling me the car had been over serviced after a conversation with Subaru U.K. they instructed the dealer to pay for a full 3 year 45, 000 mile service saving me around £800, My argument was what would Subaru had done IF my cambelt had snapped in those first 6 months of ownership.
Make them carry out the full 3 year 45,000 mile service before you pick it up, enjoy the car mate.
Cheers
Colin
