Tyre/road noise

Hi all.
I am a proud newbie!! I have just purchased an 07 Impreza Wagon WRX. Absolutely love it...awesome after my MG ZTT!! Only thing I have noticed is the excessive tyre noise! it is running on R070 Potenzas. I realise that this all relative to my last car and other cars, but is it fair to say that scoobys are fairly nisy as regards road noise?? I have had my bearings checked and all OK. Are there any recommended tyres that might be somewhat quieter while retaining other qualities.
Thanks in advance....absolutely blown away by my scooby....

OK! No replies! Is this because you feel I am criticising the car??? No, you are wrong. I love my car!! All i am trying to establish is if the tyre noise is a normal thing with these cars or if there might be something wrong with my car??

what is up with you lot??? No comments??

lol great 1st post's

i think its due to lack of sound deadening makes the car sound extra noisy

TylerDurden 26 May 2011 11:54 PM

on the classic I had before this car, I put some falken 912's on, reduced the noise quite alot.

Prefered them to Toyo T1r's actually, but alot of people think the falkens are
crap tyres.

Thanks Shane and Tyler. So I guess from your replies that there is significant road noise and i should not worry. as i said on my first post, i am running potenzas at mo, the tyre that were on when i bought. From what i read, these are fairly good tyres, in the dry at least, but fairly noisy. What were the OE tyres that were fitted??

TylerDurden 27 May 2011 01:08 PM

I think it is Bridgestone Potenza that are oe, you end up getting used to the noise, will get worse if you fit coilovers.

I should have stuck to my original choice and gone for Michelin pilot sport 3.

Dare I say .. "Turn the radio up " !! :-)

Hi, firstly they aren't std equipment, IIRC. So if noise is an issue get advice when you are changing them. They also tend to tram-line as well... I love mine !

My apologies, I read somewhere that they were.

dunx 28 May 2011 12:14 PM

They are on the STI, but not on the WRX IIRC... no need to apologise, I'm equally likely to be wrong.

wait till you polybush it
ho ho then youl know what road noise is

mg zt - good motor i had one of them - sold it before i had to do the belts - fecking hell that looked a job and a half

I used to run a set of Pirelli P Zero Nero's on my car.......... not even the radio could cope. Now on Toyo's which are quieter but the thickness of the metal and the amount of sound deadening (minimal) will always make for a noisy car.

Just wait till you polish it and watch the panels distort as you press on them LOL

Noise ! You need Toyo R888's for that Land Rover effect... :lol1:

A lot of tyre noise is related to sidewall stiffness transmitting the noise. High performance tyres are stiffer in this respect to provide better steering response etc. at the expense of comfort. Low profiles don't help either.

As Dunx says try 888s if you really want to experience tyre noise.

I don't mind the noise - it's the random rattles and squeaks that get on my tits!
