Help taking off rear bumper-classic

Trying to take off bumper complete with bumper bar. Undone all 6 large bolts underneath. Undone the clips holding the top of the bumper at arches, undone the centre clip at bottom of bumper to chassis.

The bumper moves about 2 inches but on the drivers side it is still stuck on something. Anyone can help what is stopping it coming off ???

Plate light wiring and theres a single clip on each side underneath too. Number plate holder needs swung up on imports as well.

Found it, done all the plate wiring but still something was holding it. Took the bumper off and suddenly the bumper bar came out. Nothing was bloody holding it except it was slightly caught on a lip :mad::mad::mad:

Oh well job done, cheers anyway :thumb:

Good isn't it? You pull like hell, and suddenly it comers and you are holding a 20 lb unwieldy piece of kit yourself, with nowhere to put it:rolleyes:

Annoying as hell, because however we looked, shone torches up inside, we just couldnt find what was holding it. Referenced all the guides on here and still there was nothing we had missed but would it budge..nope

Then all of a sudden it just came off.

Bloody subaru

And in the end after all that effort, I now had access to the screws holding the reap bumper spats. Would they come out so I could remove them for painting. Nope !!

So in the end I am going to have to paint them in situ after all that effort

Oh well another weekend spent faffing I guess :lol1:

Those spats SLIDE off, but they are a bl00dy nightmare to remove, because the sliders get full of cr@p and go rusty.

IIRC, they slide off backwards.

I think the confusion here is that you may be thinking about spats and I may be talking about rear skirts ?

euan_r 22 May 2011 05:13 PM

No, the screw goes into a clip not into spat directly. The clip then slides off spat, cant remeber direction either. Not exactly best design using metal clip and screw so low down at rear that gets coated in rubbish.

alcazar 22 May 2011 06:23 PM

That's it: the large top of the screw head SLIDES into the slot on the spat.

okay well I gave up in the end because I had to put the bumper back on the car so I can drive it tomorrow and other jobs got in the way so I will try again when I get back from my honeymoon :)

Far more pressing jobs to do like get married :D
