Plastic windows ??

Got my STI V3 down to 1150KG but it has started to put a few Kilo's on over the past few weeks. Bottom half dash back in, radio and speakers back in, front splitter, custom partition between boot and cabin and also had a cage go in. Looking to shave a few kilos back off it and been thinking about poly windows. The car is only a weekend toy, never left anywhere and kept in a garage everynight.
Has anybody got any experience with these,
Where to get them and how much ??

Only want to do sides not rear screen or front screen.

Thanks,
Matt.

Thanks chaps..

The link says 5 piece, guessing that is sides and rear. Seems a good price.
Wonder what the weight saving is ??

Would love to hear from someone using these in a road car. Wind noise etc. Do the windows have little sliding openings etc.

Their 3 peice kits for a newage look pretty good.

Does anyone know how secure they are compared to glass from a security POV? I guess glass is easy enough to break, what about these?

Thanks Jura. Don't think I'd fancy cutting my own to be honest and the price of the kits seem very reasonable.

MattyB1983 19 May 2011 10:55 PM

So these are 50% lighter than the glass in my car.
Long shot but any idea what the glass weighs ??

benno22 19 May 2011 10:58 PM

Replaced a rear newage screen last week which weighed 7.2 kgs, plastic weighed 2kg if that helps?? Biggest saving i made though was changing 15kg standard battery to 2kg race one from edoperformance,13kg right over the front wheel!

DamienP1 20 May 2011 12:09 AM

not sure of weight saving but have just had my car completely done with slider.

Question........I know every man does his own thing which is cool but if your trying to save weight and its only a weekend toy why has so much stuff been put back into the car????

leecalcars 20 May 2011 07:09 AM

How much and where did you get your plastic window set from Damien can you post a few pics.

DamienP1 20 May 2011 06:46 PM

sorry bud scoobyclinic sourced and fitted them.......they are a great fit wherever they got them from.......I was up there the other day to see progress on the car but didn't take pics........I can find out from the clinic tomorrow where they got them and at what price

MattyB1983 20 May 2011 07:08 PM

Wonder what they are like at speed with the Impreza having pillar less windows.

SkydiveMacca 20 May 2011 08:44 PM

Has anyone got any info on how these fit? Are they the exact same shape as the glass ones and simply fit in the same place, or do they have to bolted in rigid?

I wouldn't use the back doors, but id rather not have fixed windows at this stage.

Also, dumb question, but does the rear still have a demisting element, or is it just clear poly?

thanks :)

RS_Matt 20 May 2011 09:02 PM

Very tempted Jura! You're gonna kill my bank balance

leecalcars 20 May 2011 09:06 PM

no de mist on plastic mate, just clear poly.
think they are the same shape as glass windows and have seen a small plastic bracket screwed to support above the door to stop them flapping about.

SkydiveMacca 20 May 2011 09:18 PM

Is the fit good enough for a daily. Worried about leaks etc when it rains.

leecalcars 15 June 2013 10:26 AM

just purchased some via templar performance ,cant wait to get them fitted 50% weight saving.

Richy P1984 15 June 2013 04:17 PM

Mate, this never fails: get an airtight inflatable bag and put it in the boot. Fill it with helium, cap it off and shut the boot.

Amazingly you've lightened your car without having to take anything out.

Mine were p4p ones on my old 3dr, they are curved like the original glass so fit 100% as they should.

Make sure you get the black edge painted so you dont see the bond when fitted

I was having a new front screen fitted and got the rac auto glass chap to fit them for me. He spaced them out to fill the channel bit as i had removed all seals etc

I retained the original door glass so i could open the windows still. Stripped out cars get hot inside!

If you want to loose some weight for free and havnt already done so, remove the sound deadening. That saved 15kg in the sierra!
