Momentum all the way for me now
 

I've been using V-power for a long time now but to my horror there is now a 7p PER LITRE!!! price difference,Momentum is now £1.40 and V power £1.47!! plus i get points at tesco,so no more V-power for me (unless tesco run out of momentum!)plus it may be in my head but my car seems to run better on momentum so all good:thumb:

Being using Tesco momentum for the last month or so in my STI doesnt feel any different to Vpower and its 5p a litre less where I Live, Every little helps:D

I went to my local Tesco (5 miles away) to get their 99ron and every pump was out, had to then go 15 miles to the nearest Shell :(

I've always preferred Tesco 99. Far better MPG and the RA runs horribly on V-Power.

This has been my experience of Tesco: and they don't say sorry and they NEVER know when it'll be back.:mad:

Never used it to be honest, i've owned my car for nearly 2 years and never put fuel in it yet :D

always always put v-power in mine, so maybe worth trying out tescos once ive fitted a knock link

Heard a story about this but cant remember where,
Tesco 99 is normal super 97 with additives to bring it up to 99
Shell V power 99 is meant to be 99 naturally without any additives so both burn differently and have different rates and flash levels.

Not sure how true that is though?

I put it in my car though and never had a problem ?

Chuffin Shell garage by M1 in Ossett is just as bad as many on here might testify!

Though once a staff member called me over and told me to use another v-power pump as he said the one I went to was low and he didn't want me running dregs through the cars fuel system. :thumb:

Can you show your resource for that info? Tesco state their fuel is supplied by Greenergy.

I may be wrong then, when I worked at the customer service centre it was Esso, that was a few years ago though ?

All fuels have additives;Be it 95Ron, 97RON or 99RON. V-power is no different in that fact.

Tesco has Ethanol as its main octane booster. For VPower, these additives include Toluene (most fuels contain this), Xylene and Trimethylbenzene (other fuels somtimes use MTBE instead like BP do).

Although its base stock is often said to come from a different refinery. But - there is no evidence to show that it doesn't come from the same bastock fuel as 95RON does!

However, I've tripped across a new MSDS sheet that says that UK V-power is 5% Ethanol (it never used to), so its possible it may have changed its additive base as well. (

Also bear in mind the RON rating of both fuels is an advertised rating (i.e 'upto 99RON' ); i.e not a government legislated minimum.

The British standards these fuels conform to (BS7800) only stipulate a minimum of 97RON upon delivery. Thats a rating enforced by our government. It won't be lower than that...ever.

Not saying Tesco or Shell could mislead....but you know what marketing is like: For example; Apple sells phones with 'upto' 300hour standby time...you try getting anything near 300hours out of an iPhone. Get my drift? ;)

I think you maybe mixing up with Tesco Express petrol stations; these are often rebranded Esso stations with a Tesco express store.


The fuel supplied to the forecourts of the large supermarket is often sourced elsewhere (Greenenergy, as mentioned above).

true our local tesco express had a esso tanker filling the tanks up but it does not sell momentum only super unleaded 97 ron and 95 etc
