have you ever been sacked from your job?

If you have, what for and did it have an effect on trying to get another job?

Ant 18 May 2011 08:34 PM

dpb 18 May 2011 08:39 PM

I got sacked when I was 18 from my first proper job. I'd worked there for over 2 years but they still did it without much notice. I actually don't know why they sacked me to this day and I'm sure if rules were as strict as they are these days I could have sued them for wrongful dismissal.

daddyscoob 18 May 2011 09:08 PM

come on then, come clean. Have you been sacked ?

a great number of years ago and the most memorable was when I informed my boss that I had shagged his wife a few years previously, and said she looked loads better then though.

Id had enough of that job, it did the trick. (I had shagged his wife)

pimmo2000 18 May 2011 10:24 PM

I nearly got sack from ASDA, I was the night manager and I saw someone eat a pie out of the canteen, it was out of date and being thrown out, I shook my head and walked off..

The cleaner told security and there was a full investigation. I had to had a rep with me and everything.. I said I paid for the pie and told him he could have it .. course they couldn't check as the book keeping in the staff cafe was crap ...

I plan to start standing up a bit more as I feeling a bit short changed ny my employer although everything they are doing is pretty much lawful, I just don't think its the way of keeping good staff(which I am) motivated.

Plus I'm getting very itchy feet, I'm 25 and going nowhere fast.

ALi-B 18 May 2011 11:00 PM

Technically yes. As I comitted a H&S offence that mandated instant dismissal (forgot to use axle stands...I was 18 at the time :o).

But I was re-employed into the same job immediately afterwards. :D :lol1:

(family business ;) )

There is no need to get your knickers in a twist, darling. Don't be such an arse. Who even went in to whether it was enjoyable? The smilie was because I was being cheeky.

joey_turbo 18 May 2011 11:37 PM

I used to work on the bumper cars and occasionally the coconut shy. Was late for work once in 3 years and they sacked me. I took them to court for funfair dismissal.

Have you checked yours? Going by your reply, you my have inadvertantly put my twisted knickers on by mistake. I will overlook you wearing my knickers on this instance.

That's pretty much the same as my place. :(

They want people to be motivated and have good morale, but do very little to actually encourage this. Even worse is that they almost actively (even if not intentional) de-moralise people. It's odd, the people who take the piss and don't graft often seem to be held in higher regard than the real workers.

It seems to be a common problem that hard workers are taken advantage of or feel like they are unappreciated. But the fact remains you (and I) are just a number and easily replaced, and I am sure that will be the opinion of alot of people on this forum. Yes, we may be, but despite being in a meaningless job to some, us minions often work bloody hard for our money (called having pride) and it would be nice if some value was placed on us by employers once in a while.
