Govt say you must pay more for your energy.

to save the world. Gordon Brown didn't save the world, but YOU can. Whether China or India care about our poxy little island is anyone's guess. They're too busy building power stations and growing their economies. :brickwall

It's a frigging joke isn't it?

The same **** as we got from the last government. They are all the frigging same. Eco nonsense used as an excuse for yet more taxation.

Let's all worry about carbon budgets while the economy slides further down the pan.

F**king cnuts seconded!

Yes, lets keep building antiquated coal power stations instead and increase our fuel dependence on other countries, and worry about the spiraling cost of raw materials when China et al. buy them all up, later.

UK has enough coal reserves to last 200 years, and with carbon capture it's not the dirty fuel it once was.

We do NOT need carbon capture. CO2 is plant food, without it we'd all die. The greenies only use the term "carbon" rather than carbon dioxide as it conjures up images of yucky, black, smelly stuff that pollutes, rather than a colourless, odourless gas that is vital for the planets future. It's all in the marketing .....

We have plenty of coal, as you say, and the latest one is shale gas that's getting the greenies into a tizz as it'll mean that the world has enough "fossil" fuel for hundreds of years. And it's cheap. That'd mean their plan to take us back to the stone age won't work .....

How much more money do they think they can squeeze out of the people.
It is, as already said, just an excuse for more taxation.
Until the main offenders start to sit up and take notice, what ever we do, will not make a blind bit of difference to the planet.
I am sure they think we are all a bunch of nuggets, who will just keep on taking it. They may get a shock, hopefully very soon.

meanwhile Germany spent the boom years restructuring their energy usage into much less reliance on fossil fuels and more on renewable energy

maybe their cheaper energy costs have also played a part in their economies phenomenal recent growth.

we spent the boom years on subsidising the feckless and yachts in the south of France

damn those bloody Germans

And now they're rowing back on the windmills and ensuring they have a healthy supply of "real" power stations. Like France, who are 70% (or so) nuclear. Unless we build some more proper power stations very soon the lights will be going out. And it won't be like the 3-day week back in the 70s when we just didn't have the coal delivered to the power stations, this time it'll be because the politicians have had them, all closed down!

The carbon gases business is a big con which is a gift to all politicians!
