Do you cook with animal fat

Im confused , recently saw that supersize/skinny programme , whereby they were trying to say that british diets were regulary disasterous due to cooking everything in animal fat

Well maybe a hundred years ago , but i only use the stuff for 'buttering' my roasties

?

Nah, Olive Oil, Veg Oil etc

I can only presume he meant take away, chips etc

That's totally wrong, natural fat is the best fat. Not really going to go into it but basically most processed fats such as olive oil etc, when burned they are damaged/changed for the worse, and become damaging to the body instead.

Butter/lard or coconut oil are far better for cooking.

Though olive oils etc are perfectly fine when not used for cooking.

Supersize/superskinny seem totally clueless, it's always been calories in - out that determines weight gain.

Also despite fat having more than twice the calorific value over carbs/protein it takes a sight longer for the body to digest.

Why do you think atkins works so well. ;)

Also chippies use a processed oil, which again is bad.

Oil for general frying, lard or dripping for roast potatoes or real chips, butter for toast and suet for dumplings. So yes, you could say I still use animal fats. :)

But you see , presumably i misheard them , they were trying to make out people use mainly animal fat

- which i just cant believe !

Olive oil is supposed to be best. They say it is a major reason why a Mediterranean diet is healthy with less chance of heart problems.

Compared to what though? If I check a bottle of Napolina Olive Oil vs Crisp n Dry (Rapeseed Oil) per 100g:

Fat 91.4 / 92
Of which Saturates 13.1 / 7
Of which Monosaturates 66.7 / 54
Of which Polyunsaturates 7.5 / 30

Id say the main reason for lower heart problems in the Med is they do minimal work and spend most of the afternoon asleep :)

Wonder why the medical people say it is less damaging then!

The only thing I cook using fat is bacon or sausages and I use sunflower oil, but I rarely have these.

For a spread, I use flora. I also put a little in mash if I make it.

I think those are the only foods where I use fat.
