Quick pollon the two tyres I have choice of
 

I will be ordering tomorrow/sat morning

so out of the two, what would you go for?

1. Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
2. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's

My last set was the Sessanta but never had the Eagle F1

Just spoke to my mate who's getting the tyres for me and he says he quoted for F1 Asymmetric 2's
if that make a big difference?? The write-up's on them seem ok, but has anyone used these yet?

I'm a fan of the F1 and there's a new asy 2 model out that's said to be very good. It's not that widely available afaik, but mytyres stock them.

I have F1's and think there great in the wet or dry. Not heard of the others.

I never got on with the F1's when i had them on my previous car. Grip was very good especially in the wet but they just didn't 'feel' amazing. I much preferred the Bridgestone RE050's even though most people would say the Goodyear was the better tyre. Tyres are a very personal thing.

I moved from RE050s to F1 GSD3s and know what you mean. The RE050s were crisper, but I didn't trust them in the way I can with the F1s. I have a set of the new asymmetric 2s in the garage ready to go on and I really keen to know how they compare, goodyear claim to have worked on feel to make the tire more responsive in turn in and also rolling resistance, which were among the main criticisms over the previous model.

Goodyear F1 as a road tyre.

More expensive than Vredestein, Vredestein better value for money
F1s dont last too long if you drive hard all the time

The best all round road tyre for an impreza

Superb in the wet
Very good in the dry
They breakaway in a really progressive manner at the limits of grip.
When ever I make the front or back go with them on it is all nice and controlable.
(This is the key as you dont want grip, grip, grip more grip, hedge backwards before you can blink)

If you are doing track stuff then I would go for something totaly different.

Always had F1 shoes on my last 2 cars, mg zs 180 and Saab 9-3 Aero. Loved them as people say don't last too long when driven hard especially as the saab fwd ate these in a few months, once the asymmetrics came out they deem to have improved on how long they lasted. Got my scoob with the Potenza RE70's on and I rate these even more. I spoke to my tyre man about the Vreds and he says they are a top budgetish performance tyre and very similar to the F1's. I don't think there's much in them to be honest. I have never owned the Vreds but I think you'd be happy with either of those 2 choices. :thumb:

I have owned, and currently have again the old style F1's. For road use both wet and dry seem very good, but for occasional track use :nono:

Not sure of the new design F1's. I have only ever heard good reports about the Ultrac though....

I had a set of RE070's lasted 4k miles but fook me what a tyre :D

The Verdi's i have on at the moment are good BUT are the f1's better? :)

I can get the Verdi's at £75 per corner and the F1's for £7 more hence the dilema, do i stick with what i know or go for something different?

the poll as it stands is allmost a 50/50 split (so that aint helping :lol1:)

imo, you have just answered your own Q. if it aint broke.......

I found filling them with nitrogen rather than air improved them in this area :lol1: Quick fit £1.50 per tyre.

I have the f1's on mine and they do like to slide if pushed :)

I have the F1s on mine. V Good, but I've heard great things about the Vreddies so I'll probably give them a shot next time, just out of curiosity! Think both are excellent choices tbh.

Where did you get them mate. What size and price?

I've had the Eagle F1's on previous cars and amazing for first few months but don't last and scary in wet when only half way through the tread :eek: Vredestein are supposed to be much more of an all rounder and last a lot longer than F1's. A lot of BMW M cars' owners put them on and a lot of Corvettes also use them in the US. Cheaper too than Goodyear. I've not used them but will be replacing my stock Potenza's with a set of Vredestein Sessantas. Be interested how much you're paying or have been quoted for a set of four? My local quoted me around £100-110 per tyre from memory for the stock 17" 225 width wheels (my car is a hawkeye sti)

£75 per tyre for the Vred's? Very good price. Are you running the stock (standard) 17" wheels 225 width? What speed rating did you go for.. is it V or W? I wouldn't call Vred's a budget tyre, not in the slightest. If you look on all the high performance car forums for recommended tyres Vred's are up there with the top brands, if not with a higher rating. It is amazing value for money and this is mainly due to the fact it is little known over here, but big abroad.

and no, before you ask he cant do this all the time :( he is limited to so many sets of tyres 'for personal use' per year

IMHO experiences with tyres should start off with type of scoob "Classic" and size "16's"

I fitted one brand of tyre to my classic with 16"s and were brilliant :D When i fitted the same brand and type to a newage with 17"s they were total rubbish :mad:

Some are great dry & rubbish wet
Some are rubbish dry & wet great
Some are great on track but last 1Km
Some are rubbish on track but last 20Km

Really depends on your usage and expectations ;)

The Vred's are budget priced tyres putting premium brands to shame IMHO

Although I voted Vred's i really rate the F1's :D don't rate the T1r's

Although I'm stuck with F1's on at the moment, will be replaced with Sessanta's when the time comes :thumb:

Before saying anything, I just have to comment that I've seen polls like this 100 times, sometimes I wish people would use the search more...:brickwall:nono:

Anyway....rant over, and +1 for Sessantas.
I've had Dunlops, Avons, Goodyears and Vreddies.

The Vreddies are cheaper and better in all weather than the others IMHO.
I always found Goodyears excellent in the dry but lacking in grip in the wet - a characteristic I noticed was that in the wet the Goodyears would often slide badly - not something I want in a tyre.

On my second set of Vreddies now. I don't get tyre squeal or slide - they just grip.
Ask Moley - he uses them for track days I believe....

When you guys mention Goodyear F1s above, are you referring to the new (which steve refers too) or old? There seems to be quite a difference According to the review site I found....

and in comparison to..

I have just fitted 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 tyres in a size; 225/45/17 91Y. I am about 50 miles from scrubbing them in and then I'll let em rip on the tarmac.

I can already feel they will be even better than my previous tyres, the assymetric 1. I drove quite hard on those and got 23,000 miles out of them in my old WRX Blob.

I've had both .... both are excellent ... but for me the Goodyears are just that tiny bit better all round ... albeit a little noisier

Had f1's on lexus is200 were a decent tyre but did become a bit skittish in the wet when part worn and pushed a little.

Just by way of putting the cat amongst the pigeons, i'm currently running a set of Falken 452 and they were very impressive at the ring and half way through my second lap when the heavens opened i was pleasantly supprised at just how quickly i was able to push on and they never broke traction once.

p.s i was not going mental though but @ £75 a corner way better than t1r and f1 me thinks.. although did not have f1 on scoob so maybe not a fair comparrision and the lexus was abit lardy.
