2007 hawkeye sti suspension
 

Hey all,

I'm sure this has been asked a 100 times already but....

the dreaded knock of rear drivers side suspension especially when reversing slowly has appeared in full effect today!

I assume it is the dreaded "subaru knock" that heralds a new rear strut/suspension!

first call will be with the dealer where I recently bought the car first for replacements but failing that any reccomendations for coilovers and fitters in the London / Essex area?

Dont be to hasty, mine knocked, and turned out they just needed tightening up. Been as good as gold since.

Yes some "Dealers" just spray/grease the offending shocks or just by jacking wheels off the ground can give a very short term "Fix"

Some Subaru specialists will overhaul them as a reasonable option or source direct replacement.

Dealer prices can be top budget. so nearly as cheap as a set of Coilovers
if yours is under warranty get Dealer to do it or find out what options from Pro-R (Subaru UK new upgrade specialists)

The RB320 has slightly modified suspension over the standard STi
However, when they started to have the 'dreaded knock' the same as standard STi's, Bilstein re-worked the struts on the RB to add a 'third bearing'

I had 3 sets of the standard Bilstein struts on my RB, before the re-worked ones were fitted....
Approx 2 1/2 years now on the re-worked third bearing struts and all's well!
Actually haven't heard of any RB320's having been fitted with the 're-worked' strut having failed or started knocking!

Chevron Motorsport, Stafford, will re-work these Bilstein struts for you at a good price.
Just not sure on the standard STi strut????

Pretty sure the offending article is shot as it sometimes "sits down" when stationary after pulling up!

Not holding out much help for the mitsubishi dealer that sold me the car as they are a 4hr drive away! However a call will be made in the morning.

I will have a look at the pro-r site in the meantime.

Any guide to decent specialist garage in London/Essex? Been a good 5yr or so since I was in a scoob so am "out of touch!"

Yeah my third bearing re-work shox are fine :) Dont think any such mod was done for standard sti's? so if i owned one id get them re-worked rather than get the dealer to put new shocks on that are bound to fail again.

Tried the Lithium grease "procedue 1" as the link earleir and it seems to of done the trick.

If it persists I will see a garage about "procedure 2"

I grease mine a little from time to time and all is fine, If your worried you could drop by "Slowboy Racing" they are near Brands Hatch and only does Scoobs, not to far from London/Essex He will tell you if they are shot.

I had my rear struts on my 07 wrx replaced last august under warranty after covering 15k miles from new, after 17500 miles i bought tein uprated springs but on inspection of the struts before fitting the springs found them to be gone again after covering just 2500 miles. The front struts were also gone.I opted for tein superstreet coilovers.My local scooby garage RA Motorsport in perth said this was a design fault and happened to most subarus of this model. I sent a letter to subaru customer services explaining all the facts and they basically buried their head in the sand and said that they had never heard such a thing and wouldnt do anything about it.Typical.Anyway the superstreets are well worth the money,the handling is superb and give a much better look to the car when set up
