Coolant leak from back of engine

2000 Classic WRX - coolant leak from back of engine.

Not mine, a friends and I don't know much more. RAC guy said it wasn't a head gasket so what else is back there to leak?

Sorry I don't have any more info as yet other than it's a slow leak

Was wondering that myself. Hope not as that is a big job.

Thx for the reply, what function does that perform?

It's a common conduit, so that the coolant can circulate around BOTH block halves (remember, it's a modular flat 4 i.e. two separte banks).

Cheers, sounds like it may be one candidate for the cuase of the issue.

Had a similar thing on my blobeye, that turned out to be one of the heater hoses leaking from a small split where the clamp was, just before the bulkhead.

Could also be the lower coolant pipe that connects to the turbo. Because of the heat the pipe has a habit of swelling over time. When it leaks it often only does it when the engine gets hot.
On mine I replaced the standard spring clip with a jubilee type clip which solved the problem (fiddly job though).
