Probably, its the logical explination.

yeah, i seen something similar before when we had an open day at work. Someone brought a Tigermoth, which has a take off speed of around 40knots, trouble was wind speed was about 35 knots... looks dead funny!! Sometimes it is possible to actually fly backwards, if the stall speed of the aircraft is lower than the wind speed...

There are some extraordinary videos of people flying those planes, one I hope I can find the bloke lands on the top of a mountain in a silly place then rolls off glides and lands on a river bed, I'm not making it sound as good as it is.

Even though it's all down to the wind speed, it's still impressive.

It's not *all* down to the wind speed, although it does of course count, the Super Cub has a very low stall speed.

Certainly impressive and probably helped by a bit of headwind.

Used to do a lot of short takeoffs and landings for display and training purposes but never did fly a STOL aircraft like that one.

We used to have to practice slow flying while training in Canada on the Harvard and I do remember doing that once into the teeth of a Chinook wind which was stronger than our airspeed and seeing the ground receding in front of us was a pretty strange feeling. When you watched someone else doing from the ground it looked as though the Harvard had virtually come to the hover!
