All well and good that Google's Android market may be bigger than Apple by August 2011....

But who cares if there's a shed load of rubbish apps?

Quality, not quantity imho.....

Anyone can publish an app to Android market, regardless of what it is. Google do not screen the apps before hand. Apple do screen stuff first, so yes there will be a hell of alot of sh*t on the Android market. The upside is, because it's so easy and anyone with a PC can do it, then more people will develop for it and hopefully some good apps will come out that may not have otherwise. Also with other companies like Amazon creating their own app stores for Android, they do look at the apps first so you can have best of both worlds. Android has come along way in the last couple of years so hopefully there will be some apps to rival some iOS only ones.

but on that very note, the 'vetting' of apps mean you miss out on some good stuff

I think they should count "unique" apps - how many different clocks do you need anyway?

What Android's marketplace has going for it is treats the users/developers like adults, not confiscating certain materials deemed inappropriate, or banning apps competitive to its own (I don't know how this is legal), as Apple does for example.

The android market is no where near as good as the app store :)

Malicious software, unwanted advertising and child porn are awesome. Who wouldn't want those.

Have you got any evidence for that accusation?

Yes, but you will note that the headlines are "Apple Pulls App..." that's a sin in Android land.

True but it does prove that the problems you highlighted exist on all platforms, maybe Apple deal with them better but they are still there so none of them are whiter than white (unless its the newly released iphone 4).

I just don't think it is fair to slate a particular system.. when the same faults exist on the one you are promoting.

Obviously I am impartial as I have neither sytem I am still stuck on Nokia symbian :D
