Changing sidelight bulb Blobeye

Popped into Halfords today for an offside front sidelight bulb.Girl on the till said they could fit it for £3.00 so thought, ok go on then.
Out came the bloke but he was baffled :wonder: so I got a refund on the fitting.
Can't find my owners manual as I've just moved. Is it behind the black round thing that might screw off? :cuckoo: If so, I need bloody tiny hands.

Battery out job on the nearside and yes the circular black plastic part on the rear of the headlight unscrews

ScoobyDoo69 04 May 2011 04:06 PM

Easier to remove the light than the battery I would say.

JUAREZ 04 May 2011 04:24 PM

nearside I meant sorry..yup the battery's in the way..cheers

ozzreid1964 04 May 2011 04:32 PM

i did it gently with a long pointy nose plyers:thumb:

JUAREZ 04 May 2011 07:23 PM

cheers Ozz..another red blobeye in South Wales :thumb:

SirFozzalot 04 May 2011 07:31 PM

Manual says to remove the head lights.

B0DSKI 04 May 2011 07:47 PM

Trust me to go the battery removal route then!!

SirFozzalot 04 May 2011 08:01 PM

;) I took the headlights out when I did mine. :D

ScoobySteve69 04 May 2011 08:03 PM

The only way is to remove the headlight as I did. The `back` of the sidelight area is in the wing :wonder:

SirFozzalot 04 May 2011 08:27 PM

Yep, that's what I thought.

The headlight, indicator and main beam are accessible through the main bit but the side light bulb is up in the wing.

IggyRB320 04 May 2011 08:43 PM

I changed both the side & headligt bulbs in my mates MY05 STi Type UK the other day.
Head light out was easy!

bloody ell..this is sounding more complicated..found the manual..it just says turn the holder counter clockwise and remove the retaining spring and connector..Halfords guy thought the bumper had to come off

IggyRB320 04 May 2011 09:03 PM

Took me about 30 minutes to do the 4 bulbs, taking the head lights out!

No bumper or battery removal required...

Now my Hawkeye indicator bulbs.....thats another story!

danwel 04 May 2011 09:36 PM

loconov86 07 May 2011 08:18 PM

hi .. i got one stupid question .. my sidelight bulb is broken a couple of weeks ago .. where can i buy the new bulb ? can i get it from halfords ? my car is jdm blobeye .. how about the price ? I am not from UK so finding accesories shop is new for me .. thank you

djandyg 07 May 2011 08:23 PM

yea halfords or any motor factors will do them. cost a couple of pounds max

loconov86 07 May 2011 08:28 PM

so just to clarify, i need to take out the lamp before i can change the bulb ? means that i need to detache the bumper first ?

IggyRB320 07 May 2011 08:30 PM

I got mine from Autobulbsdirect.co.uk, and as the LED replacement bulbs are soooo small, most online distributers will deliver anywhere for a small charge!

Good luck

loconov86 07 May 2011 08:41 PM

is it this one for the sidelight ?

581 PY21W (Amber) Indicator Bulbs

It is just the same for blobeye UK spec or JDM isn't it ?

danwel 07 May 2011 08:57 PM

I got mine off a guy on ebay

loconov86 09 May 2011 12:53 PM

i was just wondering.. the bulb that is broken on my blobeye is the parking light bulb .. is this the same as 'sidelight' bulb that people always mentioned ?

Just thought i'd add to this incase anyone searching google, hear is a picture of where hidden bulb is.
