High milage 2002 bug wrx?

hi there

im new to here and going to buy a newage scooby i was looking at a 02 bug wrx completely standard, it has a full service history but it has 164 thousand miles on her, the traders asking price is £3000, i took it out for a drive and it seemed fine no clunks or whines, there is no sighn of an engine rebuild in the history, it has 1 owner from new and the guy that owned apparantley part exchanged it for a brand new focus rs. the body work is very clean it has 5 spoke compomotive wheels and a high rise spoiler, but just the standard bumper.

i havent driven any sti's yet but i am sure i want a bug eye, the insurance is only £200 more expensive for a sti type uk , i would just like some advice if anyone would buy a car with this amount of miles on it.And also where i live in the countryside where i can only get super unleaded is this good enough to run them on with out the engines detting?

thanks in advance

That sounds expensive to me at that mileage.
You can run it on super unleaded, 97 RON is fine for a standard car.
They are very robust, mechanically and bodywork wise if looked after.
Have you looked in the for sale section on here?
You'll struggle to find a Bug STI for £3000. What is your budget?

sounds a bit steep to me you could get one with half the milage for that,a uk non modded wrx is mapped to run on 95 ron fuel sti are 97 ron,if its a modded wrx you can bet it will be mapped on 97.

thanks for the quick response guys
i have around 4500 maybe push to 5000 im selling my car at the minute, do you think i should pass on the high milage wrx car then ? what money is it worth do you think roughly. the only other 4x4 turbo car i have driven was a celica gt4 st205, which was very nice to drive but i love the noise from the flat four.
im going to be keeping a few grand in the bank for the unforseen, so my limit is around 5k but for that money i would want a prodrive spec sti uk preferbly in black.

With that milage about 2k tops keep a eye on the for sale section on here it will give you a good idea, also ebay and watch the sale prices.4k and you will have a high spec modded and mint wrx maybe less.

I have an uk MY03 WRX and the book says its designed to run 98 ron, even has it printed on the fuel cap. Book says it can be run on lower but isnt recommended.

I bought a completely standard bugeye WRX 2 years ago with 90k miles on it (Full Subaru SH), 1 previous owner. I have to say that it has been the most reliable car i've ever owned.

I had it decatted and remapped almost as soon as I bought it and it's never missed a beat. Ignore all the horror stories because people only write when problems occur, never when things are running smoothly...

Good luck with the hunt, you won't regret it! :thumb:

Ben

p.s. I wouldn't use anything other than 99 RON on any Subaru, modded or otherwise....

Blobs must be have a differant map then my uk bugeye wrx owners manual says 95ron.

An average mileage 02 Bug WRX isn't worth much more than 3K buddy. I'm sure the dealer will be desperate to move that car on so go in with your size tens and bid him. Be hard with it, start at £2K and don't pay any more than £2300 (if its really tidy). But to be perfectly honest if you can stretch your budget I'd look for something else.
Remember, that model is probably the least desirable impreza turbo available, and with that mileage it's even worse.
