0-60 5.7 172mph 1/4 mile 12.9 faultless when sold up to 42000miles

Just joined scoobie net to see whats going on lots of talk about 2.5ltr engine failures
i was told that the one ive just bought is the upgraded model with new suspension

any way i was wondering if ive made the rite choice i could of bought the RS3 which i still have a deposit on
looked at the evo fq300 to basic
Rs focus to chavy
then spotted the new 4 door saloon sti looks amazing
very lexus 200 / m5ish

You've come on a Subaru forum asking if you've made the right choice buying a Subaru.

Well the Golfs did pretty bad at 30-130 day so it's a step in the right direction :thumb:

You have a rock solid motor there. You will only hear about the bad cases on the internet and therefore it will always seem worst than it is. The Audi lumps are prone to carbon build up, especially the RS4, all the way down to the S3's. This is due to the direct injection (FSI) that they use, where fuel no longer sprays over the valves, which would have cleaned them, but this no longer happens. The reason for direct injection was for mfr's to reduce co2 emissions. However in as little as 10k miles carbon build up is occurring and owners who take their cars on rolling roads are finding they are making significant power losses and lots of poor running and misfires. Only a proper head strip down and clean sorts out the problem. It is not a case of using different types of fuel..nothing can prevent this. It is the inherent nature of direct injection which causes this issue. Search "carbon build up audi" in Google and you'll find numerous results and info on this. Every car has its problems. Of course Subaru is no exception. However well looked after it is very reliable. The RS3 must be considerably more expensive than the Impreza. I do like Audi's but their engine quality of late is not as good as it used to be (I think mfr's are focussing more on bottom line, as opposed to quality like they used to.. I sound old dont I lol).

I also own a 2.5l but from a 2006/56 "hawkeye" Impreza STI. I'm still learning so others may be able to better advise you. From my understanding after speaking to a couple of specialists the 2.5 is more prone to failure than the earlier newage 2000-2005 2.0l lump if it is mapped incorrectly. However if it is mapped properly and all running properly it will be fine and give a huge amount more torque than the 2.0l. Head gasket leaks have been reported too but again these are in the minority (again, it's a case of you will only hear about the bad stories, never the good). Your Impreza, even in standard form will be an equal match for your old modified Golf GTI. A simple remap would blitz your old Golf. Enjoy it! I too like the new saloon shape 2011 impreza's. Glad Subaru got their heads straight and offered the saloon again.

So have you actually purchased the car or are you looking at one?
If you have purchased then unfortunately you bought at a bad time :( the new 2.5ltr engines are due out later this year and that has to be an improvement to the current one which does suffer issues due to the piston design.

Early 06 model cars and some 07 cars had issues with head gaskets, all of them have issues with ringland failures, your best bet is "if" this happens have a chat with your nice subaru garage and get them to replace them with upgraded forged items.
The PPP is worth going for if you want to keep the warranty also.

just to be clear i have purchased the 4 door in whit with a low level spoiler just like my dads saphere cosy those were the days

the lap time was my third lap and my very first time i raced it was excellent

hence the reason i went for the subaru the looks are stunning and a more involving drive

u seem to hear alot of about the weakness of the 2.5, thats inherent to the internet, u only hear bad things, most the failures seem to come from bad or standard maps ( i did say most here ) . Get a good mapper to give it the once over, no idea about brand new 1 but iam sure they good cars, but for torque they hard to beat

I love the 2011 4dr Sti get the high level HT autos spoiler would looks the mutts nuts

2011 is a beaut, still haven't seen one in the flesh though.

My thoughts exactly. Oops just had the dreaded "internet explorer cannot find the page" which seems to be happening a lot on this site.

It's all about the map on the 2.5l. Im having a very good mapper give my car the once over tomorrow.

Nice car and welcome to SN. When you off to the ring as I plan on taking my r205 in a few weeks I might go with circuit days it's a 4 day trip cost £1000 for a car and including a passenger.
