What is it about cross ply tyres that makes them so dangerous?

Lack of contact patch

Too flexible IIRC...............all that bending rubber causes a lot of rolling friction and lack of control.

They aren't inherently dangerous...

It's mixing them with radials, then there are problems.

P.S. F1 only started using radials in 1977...

motorcycle only started using radial in the mid to late 80's

I see.

So if you were to mix them with radials their limitations are exacerbated then.
Radials being the superior tyre making the cross ply reach their limits of performance.

Have I got that right?

Just can't mix on same axle as dangerous not common to find them now though
