STI v4 or v5?
How can you tell if your car is a v4 sti or v5 and what are the differences?
My vin starts with JF1GF8KD... New to classics, so any help appreciated. :notworthy |
Don't bother with the vin, look at the plate on the near side front strut. It'll have your model code which should start GC8.

As richie said, you need the applied model code on the vin plate, will have transmission, model, option and paint code (plus engine code etc).
Thats the best way to tell, other ways are steering wheel, version 5's have a nice shiny momo centre cap, on a v4 its pressed and black in the steering wheel, v4 is a phase 1.5 engine with the coil pack centre of the engine inlet, in a v5 its offset to the right when looking in. Tony:) |
Thanks fellas, the coil pack is in the centre so I guess it's a MY98.
The model number is GF8FK8D. |

Sorry my mistake, I was really trying to find out if it was a MY98 or MY99, as I've heard that you can't map the ECU on a MY98? :wonder:
