PRINCE2 Project Management Course

Has anybody done the PRINCE2 Project Management Course?

What are your thoughts on it? Is it worthwhile?

RobsyUK 28 April 2011 10:35 PM

My wife has done it and said it was brilliant. She said to do the practioner and don't bother with foundation - Employers don't recognise it.

Once she had completed the course - £800 (i think) paid by argos she signed up to Linktin and has been offered loads of jobs. She is leaving Argos after 9 years for a life at Master card..

Any qu'es just ask.

Judging by the job searching I've been doing recently, I would suggest it is definitely worthwhile.

Employers can afford to be extremely choosy right now, so any advantage you can give yourself is worthwhile. It may not get you more money, but it could well get you the interview and ultimately the job.

In terms of the validity of the qualification, it is great for medium to large scale projects, but very few people implement Prince 2 appropriately for smaller, short term projects. I personally prefer Agile/Scrum for these.

I would also echo RobsyUK - go straight for the practitioner qualification.

Did my practitioners course some years ago but have allowed the qualification to lapse. Echo the comments from Jerome - it is a significant admin overhead to implement all the elements of the methodology.

Have also done an OGC's MSP, and Management of Risk course - both were very good courses.

Defacto standard course on project management approach, techniques and good practice. Worth doing to to get the fundamentals straight in your head.

I'm a PM GOD.... :D but if you don't use it you'll lose it

SJ_Skyline 29 April 2011 09:04 PM

It's a basic, pre-requisite.

I completed this some 3 years ago it is worth doing in as much it is the standard now required for a PM although if you were to apply all of it it would be hard work!
You have to pass foundation before you can go for practioner level (This can be done on the same day) my advise is if you go for it make sure you do the homework as there is a lot to take in.
