New Fabia vRS and the DSG gearbox ?

Well I've always had manual cars but as my Mk1 Fabia vRS is getting on a bit (6 years....58K miles) I thought I'd try the new version to see how it compared.

Knowing it had "this DSG" gearbox I wasn't expecting to like it much as I've always been a manual advocate but my god!!! it was easy to get used to!

Really liked the way it changed character in sport mode :) The turn in was a lot better than the heavy lump of a diesel I have been used to and then I found out they are selling them without any VAT........so its like £13.6K on the road........checking out the opposition that seems like a good price for the performance, 7k cheaper than a Polo GTi.....

Found the seemless gearchange weird but amusing, like playing a video game..........:p

Anyone run one ? Is there a downside to these 1.4 TSI engines?

I'm not sure how well Skoda are selling these. Might be worth having a good haggle and shop around to see what discounts you can get.

I like the package, but just think that the Fabia looks a little too tall for its wheelbase.

I've had a long hard think and have changed my mind about buying it even though the VAT off makes it a good deal and although I liked the DSG more than I thought I would there is def something missing from the car.

what you said Steve about it being too tall..... I know exactly what you mean!

Decided to stick with the mk1 as a daily runner for now and then may be get a 2nd car for the weekend that can be as impractical and thirsty as it likes :p

TG did a test up in the Lakes with a new Fabia VRs and they said the gearbox did not suit the car in a more challenging enviroment. Definetly needed a manuel.

Holla Fabioso,

If your thinking of selling that mk1, let me know. See my post in this section if you like. Im looking for that type of age and mileage.

Thanks for the interest! after looking at how stable the prices are with the mk1 Fabia vRS (and how keen the main dealer was to get it on his forecourt...) I have decided to stick with mine as its a good car and I've had it from new!

Comparing the mk1 with the mk2, its pretty clear to me that the mk2 may be just slightly quicker out of the blocks but is going to be the thirstier car by a country mile! which explains the demand for the mk1......also helped by rising fuel prices no doubt....
